Job Summary  |
The College of Arts and Sciences is seeking a Department Manager whose main focus will be to help support academic and program administrative needs in the Department of Philosophy and in the Dean’s Office.

Under the direction of the Administrative Staff Officer III and Department Chair, this individual will assist with tasks critical to the success of the Department and Dean’s Office per College and University deadlines and expectations, which may include but are not limited to: collection, submission, and/or distribution of faculty and instructor reports for scheduled reviews; submission of Triage tickets for purchasing, travel, independent contractors, student awards, hiring, technical/creative IT help, and building/key/space/surplus/renovation requests, etc.; course scheduling; collection of payroll information and submission of payroll reports; meeting monthly with the College Business Center for departmental budget reviews and planning per Dean’s Office; items related to TA/GA/RA and student success and/or funding, such as GSAS form submission, TA credentials database updates, processing overrides, etc.; maintaining departmental files and records; event and/or conference planning and support; attending all Department Manager meetings and training opportunities as scheduled by the College.

The Associate Department Manager will be expected to collaborate effectively and frequently with centralized College units, including the Dean’s Office, Business Center, Space and Facilities, Hive, Enrollment Management, Philanthropy, and Advising, along with units across campus and external to the University. The Associate Department Manager will play a critical role in ensuring efficient and inviting workplaces and departments for undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

This individual will serve as an advocate for the department and its faculty, and an active member of a team of Department Manager colleagues and College staff. Successful candidates must possess a broad understanding of an academic setting, be able to effectively communicate among various personalities and situations, and be a team player with a strong ability to multi-task and collaborate in a fast-paced environment.
