Digital Journalist Full Description
Overview:
The Digital Journalist (Multimedia Associate) works across multiple teams within University Marketing and Communications (UMAC) to create photos and videos for news stories, social media, and other marketing needs. This is a one-year position, with the possibility of extension contingent upon available funding. The Digital Journalist will interview faculty, students, and staff on a variety of topics including, but not limited to, research, internships, and campus events. This position creates and edits content for web and social media, occasionally writing event recaps for Utah State Magazine and appearing on camera for social media content. The role also assists with larger photo and video shoots across campus when necessary.
The Digital Journalist is inquisitive by nature and has the knowledge and skills to schedule and conduct interviews on a wide range of university topics, often balancing multiple projects at a time to create a variety of multimedia content for UMAC and its entities. Responsibilities:
Main Functions:
- Conduct interviews with students, faculty, staff, asking appropriate questions to create compelling content.
- Works independently to produce content for Utah State Today, Utah State Magazine, the university’s YouTube channel, and social media.
- Ensures video aligns with Utah State University’s branding position.
- Meets deadlines for all projects.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Preferred Functions:
- Understands story strategy in relation to the university’s mission and vision.
- Stays up to date on social media trends and suggests appropriate content strategies accordingly.
- Conceptualizes and executes digital interviews and video shoots across campus, in studios, or on location.
- Assists in coverage for special events and promotional activities, serves as photographer and/or videographer to capture notable moments from campus events.
