About VCU Continuing and Professional Education and LEDstudio–VCU Continuing and Professional Education (VCU CPE), in partnership with the colleges and schools at Virginia Commonwealth University, provides and supports quality continuing and professional education and skills training for individual, local, regional and national impact. VCU Continuing and Professional Education harnesses the power of VCU — including more than 3,300 instructional faculty and adjunct instructors, an academic medical center and long-standing community relationships — to create the best learning opportunities available to nontraditional adult learners.VCU LEDstudio is a leader in providing quality higher education using a number of delivery methods, including fully online and hybrid. The unit broadly supports faculty and academic units in their efforts to leverage technology to optimize student learning, and provides strategic leadership in developing, expanding and enhancing VCU’s online learning programs and energizing the assessment and continuous quality improvement of current and new technology-mediated courses and programs.The position is a Digital Learning Specialist (Instructional Design Specialist AA1). The Digital Learning Specialist will play a key role in advancing digital learning experiences by combining coding expertise, design principles, and creative problem-solving. This position requires strong technical development skills alongside the ability to manage, support, and integrate instructional technologies within the university’s Learning Management System (Canvas), T4, and other related platforms.The ideal candidate is a self-starter who thrives in a collaborative environment, passionate about developing custom learning objects, supporting faculty-facing digital tools, and ensuring accessibility compliance in online learning. This role will also involve web development and digital content support for the unit’s website, as well as assisting with Academic Affairs web projects, as needed.This position is predominantly telework, but requires periodic on-campus presence for meetings and events, and when indicated by leadership. Qualifications | Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Digital Media, Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Web Development, or a related fieldThree (3) or more years of experience in digital learning development, instructional technology, e-learning, or related fieldsProficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Google Apps Script, and/or other programming languages relevant to e-learning developmentProficiency with T4 (TerminalFour CMS) for web content managementExperience with Canvas LMS and third-party integrationsProficiency with the Adobe Creative Cloud suiteKnowledge of SCORM, xAPI, and LTI standards for interactive learning toolsUnderstanding of WCAG, Section 508 compliance, and accessibility remediationAbility to develop custom-coded learning objects and interactive course elementsExperience supporting faculty in adopting instructional technologies and digital learning toolsStrong problem-solving skillsAbility to work independentlyExcellent interpersonal, verbal, and written skillsProven ability to work as a contributing and collegial member of a team, and to communicate proactively within the team environment, with supervisors, and with the leadership teamDemonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism, and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from various backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a member of the VCU community.Proven time management skills
