Position Overview
The Director, West Sales is a knowledgeable and capable sales leader with demonstrated success managing a consultative sales team and experience managing large, complex accounts in the education industry. The ideal candidate for this position will have a strong operational background, experience managing a sales organization in a growth business, a proven track record of exceeding aggressive goals and the ability to help build a value driven sales culture. This position supports a team of sales professionals focused on California and surrounding areas.

Specific Roles & Responsibilities:
Leadership:
  • Leads a value driven sales culture that is consultative, accountable, collaborative, effective and rewarded
  • Develops comprehensive national field strategies to increase market leadership capacity and ensures the development of customer partnerships that ultimately leads to the attainment of individual and team revenue goals
  • Partners with team members to develop territory plans designed to build diversified and meaningful pipelines as well as to achieve monthly, quarterly and annual revenue goals
  • Manages a team with clearly defined monthly, quarterly and annual expectations and ensures the right mix of prospecting, planning, presenting, negotiating and closing
  • Mentors and coaches team members on consultative solution selling and on the development of custom solutions that support customers transition to digital
  • Recruits, hires and on-boards new team members, as needed
  • Presents Teaching Strategies solutions in a customized, credible, thorough and thoughtful manner and ensures all team members are capable of the same
  • Models effective communication, problem-solving, strategic planning, and consistent, energetic and positive leadership for the team and the company
  • Develops relationships at an executive level within a targeted set of accounts to develop and implement solutions that meet their strategic objectives; solutions include print and digital solutions as well as professional development services
  • Maintains an understanding of relevant and timely industry trends to support advisory/peer role with educational leaders and customers
  • Adheres to budgets by managing travel, client entertainment and other field related expenses

Collaboration:
  • Works across all departments to establish shared goals and cross-functional initiatives in support of sales and company goals
  • Partners with the Partner Success team to develop processes, communication standards and other improvements to ensure a positive and consistent experience for all customers
  • Collaborates with the Inside Sales team on account assignments, territory planning and communication to increase market penetration across all segments and sizes
  • Works with Marketing to establish short and long term priorities, to share field intelligence, and to partner on the development and execution of creative field initiatives and events

Operations:
  • Delivers timely and defendable forecasts, reporting and analysis for Senior Management
  • Develops comp plans, incentives and promotions to keep the team motivated, productive and rewarded
  • Develops monthly, quarterly and annual sales goals, thresholds and rules of engagement

Qualifications:
  • Lives in or near California
  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree a plus
  • 10+ years of education sales experience with a track record of success selling print, assessment and digital education solutions
  • 6+ years of sales leadership experience in education with a track record of success leading a team, meeting goals and establishing performance management standards and other operational infrastructures to sustain growth
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work with internal staff in order to maintain a results-driven, team oriented environment
  • Experience developing strategic plans and leading a team that executes against them
  • Direct experience working with educational partners on their transition from print solutions to comprehensive digital solutions
  • Experience performing market analysis and building/managing a diverse and balanced sales pipeline
  • Experience providing regular forecast reporting and analytics
  • Knowledge of educational structures and ability to sell to multiple decision makers at multiple levels
  • Experience with Salesforce or another CRM solution is highly desired
  • Mastery of successful selling skills and techniques
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain positive and effective relationships at the executive level, internally and externally
  • Proficient in Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Prior experience in the education field (e.g. classroom teacher) is a plus
  • Ability to travel up to 50% with seasonal variations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent presentation and public speaking skills
  • Effective organizational skills
