Department Summary
The College of Health and Public Service (HPS) at the University of North Texas prepares graduates to address diverse and complex social issues such as aging, disability, disaster management and recovery, criminal justice, health disparities and public safety, and find solutions to challenges in public administration, public health and urban design.

We have eight academic departments with undergraduate and graduate programs, the Kristin Farmer Autism Center, the Center for Public Management, the UNT Speech and Hearing Center, the UNT Work Inclusion and Supported Employment (UNTWISE) program, UNT ELEVAR, and several professional development and clinical training programs to facilitate careers to address a global society.

HPS Student Advising guides students from start to finish, helping them explore careers, choose their major, select courses, meet university requirements, prepare for graduation and more to ensure they have a meaningful undergraduate experience at UNT.

Position Overview
The Director of HPS Advising develops, implements, and analyzes strategic program initiatives related to recruitment, retention, and graduation of undergraduate students within the College of Health and Public Service. They also supervise all Student Success personnel and office operations and advise students regarding HPS degree requirements and academic policies.

Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree and four years of experience in student affairs, student services, counseling, professional academic advising, or related experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Considerable knowledge of University policies and procedures related to functional area (or ability to rapidly assimilate). Current knowledge of student development and counseling theory. Strong leadership skills appropriate for a supportive, dynamic environment. Strong presentation skills, critical thinking skills, creative problem solving skills. Ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations verbally and in writing. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships.

Job Duties
Maintains and enhances professional knowledge through training, professional associations, and related activities. SUPERVISION AND ADMINISTRATION OF ACADEMIC SERVICES: Coordinates daily operations for the office, and maintenance of data associated with office operations. Confers with Dean, Associate Deans, staff specialist, and faculty members on advising concerns, challenges, and academic success issues. Makes administrative decisions related to concurrent enrollment, drop/add, suspension, probation, overloads, and grade appeal inquiry. Ability to hire, discharge, supervise, and evaluate Student Services personnel in accordance with the University's policies and Procedures. Demonstrate effective leadership skills for a diverse office staff. Provides leadership in development and implementation of new students orientation programming. Develops retention programs for students at risk, particularly those identified by academic alert or academic probation status.Review academic appeal requests for students on academic suspension and make decisions and recommendations for academic reinstatement as appropriate. Maintain working familiarity with relevant University, College, and program policies and procedures, and maintain mastery of authorized EIS data bases, and other computer information systems required to perform above described job duties.
