Description of Work  | The Director of University Career Services (UCS) provides overall leadership for coordination of university-wide and special-interest career fairs, reporting on career development and post-graduation outcome surveys, selection and support of career services technologies, and in conjunction with college partners, the cultivation and maintenance of employer relations. The UCS Director reports to the Senior Associate Vice Chancellor and Dean of Undergraduate Education (SAVC), oversees UCS personnel, and serves on leadership teams within the Undergraduate Education and Student Success (UESS) Unit.

The UCS Director works with the SAVC to set strategy for the University Career Services team in cultivating and maintaining employer relations and in developing, implementing, and promoting university-wide career development programs (e.g. Career Fairs, niche events, etc.). Under the Director’s guidance, the UCS team leads the University Career Fair committee comprised of career professionals from the academic colleges to meet the needs and desires of the academic colleges while ensuring broad and diverse employer engagement opportunities that benefit all students regardless of their degree program.

The Director works collaboratively with college career partners to promote the use of career services resources and technologies (such as Handshake) and to assess and report on students’ engagement with career development (e.g. internships) and first destination career outcomes. The Director works with college career partners and the Office of Institutional Effectiveness and Analytics to refine and promote surveys and tools to capture meaningful career data for university improvement and assessment. The Director also maintains and shares national best practices and policies for career development with college partners.

The UCS Director provides oversight, training, and guidance to all UCS staff members and student employees. The Director oversees the budget for UCS, including career fair revenues, JLD grants, and employer sponsorship programs. In consultation with the SAVC, the Director coordinates distribution of revenue to support career development efforts across campus.

Minimum Required Qualifications  | Bachelor’s degree in a related field plus five years of experience in a university/college setting and/or in business in a human resources or training and development function. Supervisory experience required. Experience with public speaking required. Experience must demonstrate an ability to learn extensive career information, policies, and procedures. Knowledge of job trends and career development skills and public relations/marketing abilities. Demonstrated organizational, time management, and verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work independently. Demonstrated ability to analyze organizational concerns, develop alternative solutions, and recommend sound and timely decisions. Proficient at Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Access, Outlook and PowerPoint or other presentation software.
Preferred Qualifications  | Master’s degree in related field; equivalency considered. Experience in cultivating employer relations and engagement. Industry experience recruiting university students desirable. Experience with utilizing data tools and systems for reporting and analysis desirable. Budgetary knowledge desirable. Demonstrated public relations/marketing abilities to be used on behalf of career services specifically.
