Chapman University is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this position. This range takes into account a variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. Salary offers are determined based on the final candidate’s qualifications and experience, as well as internal equity and other internal factors. The anticipated pay range is not a promise of a particular wage.
Position Summary Information
Job Description Summary | Reporting to and working closely with the Associate Vice President of Marketing and Digital Strategy in Strategic Marketing and Communications (SMC), the Director of Integrated Marketing and Strategy is a strategic member of the team responsible for developing and executing strategic, audience-centered marketing plans that advance the university’s brand, enrollment, engagement, and reputation. This role will collaborate closely with campus partners—including colleges, schools, admissions, departments, and administrative units—to guide and align diverse marketing strategies with overarching institutional goals while addressing the unique needs of each unit. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker, data-informed decision-maker, and collaborative leader with deep expertise in integrated marketing across channels — and is expected to be an emerging leader within SMC, contributing to the broader digital vision of the university
This position is in person in Orange, CA and the candidate will be expected to be in the office 3-5 days a week.
Responsibilities | Strategic Planning and Leadership
Lead the development and implementation of comprehensive, multi-channel marketing strategies that align with institutional priorities including enrollment, audience engagement, advancement, brand and reputation building. Support the Associate VP in providing data-informed strategic advising to university leadership and partners on marketing goals, best practices, audience segmentation, positioning, and ROI. Identify and capitalize on market trends, audience insights, and institutional strengths to differentiate Chapman and drive awareness, engagement, and interest. Assist in coordinating marketing budget planning and alignment with SMC leadership and partners, as directed by the Associate VP.
Campaign Development and Execution
Direct the planning and execution of integrated marketing campaigns across paid, owned, earned, and shared media. Oversee media planning, messaging strategy, and marketing analytics for university-wide brand reputation, institutional awareness, and high-priority programs initiatives. Collaborate with art, graphic design, and visual content teams to ensure all content supports campaign goals and KPIs. Ensure consistency and alignment with the university’s brand guidelines, voice, tone, and visual identity.
Collaboration and Partner Engagement
Serve as the marketing liaison to colleges, schools, and units for strategic initiatives. Cultivate relationships with key campus partners in the Communicators Council. Foster a culture of collaboration, transparency, data driven decision making, and innovation within the marketing team and across the institution.
Team and Project Management
Supervise and mentor a team of 2-3 marketing professionals. Set team goals, manage workflows, and oversee project management to ensure high-quality and timely execution of projects. Manage vendor relationships for assigned campaigns and/or projects.
Measurement and Optimization
Establish KPIs and dashboards to measure the effectiveness of marketing initiatives and adjust strategies based on performance data. Facilitate, manage and develop personas with segmentation studies and data analysis. Conduct post-campaign analysis to share insights and recommendations with partners. Promote a test-and-learn culture to continuously improve marketing effectiveness and ROI.

Required Qualifications | Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, business, or a related field. 6+ years of progressive experience in marketing and communications, including strategic planning and campaign management. Demonstrated success leading integrated marketing initiatives in a complex organization, preferably in higher education. Familiarity with CRM systems (e.g., Slate, Salesforce), marketing automation platforms, and content management systems (CMS). Strong understanding of digital marketing, content strategy, UX/UI, brand management, and analytics. Familiarity with web design and optimization techniques. Team player, but ability to work independently with minimal guidance Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Proven leadership ability, including team development and cross-functional collaboration. Skilled proficiency at editing and proofreading Knowledge of MS Office and project management software Ability to do best-practice research and apply it to department projects and processes. Demonstrated ability to develop marketing strategies, insights, and results independently of a third-party agency.
Desired Qualifications | Master’s degree in marketing, communication, business or a related field. Experience working in or with a central marketing and communications function in higher education. Experience managing creative agencies and external marketing vendors. Knowledge of enrollment marketing, graduate/professional education, and/or research promotion.
