Description
The Director of Learning Technology is responsible for the daily administration, support, and integration of Canvas, Midland College’s learning management system (LMS), This position oversees support ticket processes, manages integrations across enterprise academic systems, and ensures the effective operation of connected learning tools. The position serves as a key point of contact between academic users, IT/Programming, and vendors, ensuring that Canvas and related systems operate smoothly and align with institutional needs

Essential Functions
  • Serve as primary administrator for Canvas, Midland College’s learning management system (LMS)
  • Configure and manage courses, enrollments, roles, permissions, and account settings
  • Serve as the main point of contact for Canvas-related help tickets from faculty, students, and staff
  • Troubleshoot and resolve LMS issues related to access, enrollments, gradebook, content, and assessments
  • Develop and maintain documentation, FAQs, and support resources
  • Oversee student information system integrations, ensuring accurate data synchronization and collaborating with campus partners to resolve issues
  • Manage the implementation, configuration, and maintenance of LTI tools integrated with Canvas
  • Collaborate with academic support to help students utilize the LMS
  • Serve as point of contact for new and existing instructional technology subscriptions
  • Stay current with Canvas features, LTI standards, and higher education learning technology trends
  • Ensure compliance with FERPA, data privacy standards, and institutional policies
  • Other duties as assigned 

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university
  • Demonstrated proficiency and expertise in the use of learning management systems
  • Must possess a valid Texas Driver License, good driving record, and be insurable on Midland College’s insurance policy

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience managing a learning management system for an organization
  • Experience working in higher education
  • Experience with enterprise system integrations and data exchange processes
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with IT, faculty, and administrative positions 

Physical Demands
  • Frequently moves equipment or paperwork weighing up to 25 pounds
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time
