Virginia Peninsula Community College is a two-year institution of higher education established as a part of a statewide system of community colleges. It primarily serves the residents of the cities of Hampton, Newport News, Poquoson, and Williamsburg, and the counties of James City and York.

The mission of the Office of Secondary School Programs is to provide rigorous and meaningful post-secondary options to area high school students. Through its dual enrollment and career coach services and programs, the Office provides programs, services, support and advising to high school students to enhance their post-secondary opportunities. The Office provides a connection between the College and the community by supplying prospective students with information on educational opportunities that can lead to future workplace success. Virginia Peninsula Community College changes lives, empowers students to succeed, and enhances the social and economic vitality of the region through high quality education and workforce training, excellent service, and innovative partnerships.

Provides support at the college level to increase high school students’ participation and success in Dual Enrollment programs. Coordinate, administer, and evaluate dual enrollment programs, including HB1184, Early College Scholars, and traditional dual enrollment, with partnership school divisions and the various high schools and technical centers. Plans and identifies, in consultation with college faculty, Deans, and local high school administrators, the most appropriate dual enrollment courses and coordinates the scheduling and delivery of such courses and related services. Responsible for communications with dual enrollment instructors which outline DE procedures for each semester, sets forward calendar of dates and deadlines, procedures for checking class Rosters, and grade roster submission. Responsible for collecting, coding, and disseminating DE registrations each semester, initiates drop/add/withdrawal procedures for students. Responsible for developing dual enrollment contracts for each school system in partnership area. Responsible for providing the Business Office with billing information and class rosters for each semester’s billing of local school systems. Assists in the coordination of the on-line application process for partnership schools, students, and parents, as well as assists with the coordination of placement testing in partnership schools or at Virginia Peninsula Community College. Responsible for updating the dual enrollment web site. Responsible for the yearly dual enrollment calendar, fall and spring semester spreadsheets of dual enrollment instructors and their classes. Confers with school division officials on new course initiatives and helps resolve problems encountered and takes or seeks corrective actions. Secures credentialing information to determine the qualifications of prospective dual enrollment instructors under VCCS-29 form before forwarding to Academic Division Deans for approval of credentials. Supports the Records Office in securing outstanding grades, incompletes, or missing grades for specific students. Coordinates college readiness testing procedures with participating secondary schools. Establishes on and off-site testing procedures if needed for the VPT, and procedures for accessing testing information for enrollment purposes. Also screens, advises, and registers all Independent DE students as well as Homeschool students.
Special Assignments  | May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's/Required Qualifications  | Knowledge: Understanding of the philosophy of student support services in relation to the total college program. Knowledge of college admission policies and procedures; general policies and procedures within enrollment services and student life, and the academic needs of college students. Knowledge of occupational/technical education. Knowledge of local and national education tests and testing protocol and procedures.  Skills: Demonstrated skills in effective interpersonal and business communication as applied to interactions in recruitment settings. Skilled in assessment, problem solving, verbal and written communications, collaboration with other departments, public speaking, and training to include planning, developing, and coordinating presentations for professional development and the public. Abilities: Demonstrated ability to apply theories of organizations and development within the framework of the college educational setting. Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse population of high school students, parents, community college faculty, staff and administrators, and the general public. Ability to maintain a flexible schedule and work accurately in a fast paced, multi-tasked, deadline-oriented environment. Demonstrated ability in Microsoft Office Suite and/or XP for Windows to include extensive database management, presentation dev/hoelopment, and troubleshooting skills.
