Job Summary | OVERVIEW: Reporting to the Senior Associate Vice President of Auxiliary Services & Operations, the Director of Auxiliary Services Finance will direct day to day operations related to accounting and finance (and associated systems & business processes) in the auxiliary services departments. This includes, but is not limited to leading, (in collaboration with the Auxiliary Services Leadership Team), the finance/business services staff in each of the auxiliary divisions.

The department may choose to hire at any of the below job levels and associated pay rates based on their business need and budget.Responsibilities | In conjunction with the Senior Associate Vice President (Senior AVP) of Auxiliary Services & Operations, proactively evaluates current financial and accounting business processes, systems, procedures, policies, legal compliance, and financial strength of auxiliary service departments and the office of the Senior AVP and leads change initiatives as required.
Audits, reviews, coordinates, and prepares both operational and replacement & renewal budgets (combined approximately two-hundred million annually) according to deadlines provided by University of Utah leadership. In coordination with the Senior AVP, delivers annual budget presentations and quarterly financial reviews to the Chief Financial Officer and/or designated staff. Develops, creates, and presents proformas and financial outlook statements for individual auxiliary units in collaboration with departmental staff. Reviews reports and documents prepared by auxiliary services staff for accuracy. Reviews financial performance of the auxiliary services business units, utilizing the University of Utah’s system of record, PeopleSoft, and presents findings to the Senior AVP and/or designated staff. Reviews and reports on the variance or lack of variance, (in collaboration with auxiliary departmental staff), between PeopleSoft and the Auxiliary Services shadow systems associated with daily business process in the varying business units, including, but not limited to, NetSuite, Watchman, Yardi Voyager, Momentus Technologies, Shift4, Atrium, T2, StarRez, Versa, Presswise, and Quickbooks. Provides financial analysis for the Senior AVP, Chief Operating Officer and/or their representative, Chief Financial Officer and/or their representative, and/or designated staff related to auxiliary services and university stakeholders. Provide direction through multiple communication channels, including formal letters and memos, electronic communication, in-person meetings, and telephone calls, related to accounting and finance matters on behalf of the Senior AVP Auxiliary Services & Operations’ office. Coordinate and contribute to the success of the University of Utah Chief Financial Officer’s evolving organizational structure aimed to find efficient, accurate, and policy driven business services, including financial transactions, reporting, and budgeting. Actively engage in professional organizations that advocate for positive change and revenue generation in higher education. Participate in university committees as assigned as a representative on behalf of Auxiliary Services. Engage with Internal Audit as required for regularly scheduled audits of the auxiliary services business units. Contributes leadership and vision, with professionalism and inclusivity in the workplace, for Auxiliary Services staff as part of the Senior AVP’s Leadership Team. Engages in training as assigned to gain knowledge and new skillsets required to perform job duties. Other duties and projects as assigned by the Senior AVP of Auxiliary Services.

Associate Director, Finance Planning & Analysis Management
Direct/Manage/Supervise the organization’s short and long-term financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes. Enhance the finance department’s ability to manage performance by linking corporate strategy to execution. Gauge overall financial health by using key financial ratios (e.g., debt to equity ratio, profit and loss, variance reports, financial statements) and determine which of the company’s products or product lines generate the largest portion of its profit. Create, update, and maintain financial models and detailed forecasts, measuring potential impacts to financial growth. Evaluate whether the organization’s current assets and investments are the best use of capital. Prepare internal reports for executive leadership. Compare historical results against budgets and forecasts, and perform variance analysis to explain differences in performance, making improvements as necessary. Third-level manager. Manages the activities of first-level and second-level managers and/or supervisors. Responsible for hiring, firing, performance appraisals, and pay reviews. Broad knowledge of the field with proven leadership skills.Requires a bachelor’s (or equivalency) + 10 years or a master’s (or equivalency) + 8 years of directly related work experience.This is an Associate Director-Level position in the Management track.
Director, Finance Planning & Analysis Management

Minimum Qualifications |
EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT: 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (Example: bachelor’s degree = 4 years of directly related work experience).
Department may hire employee at one of the following job levels: Associate Director, Finance Planning & Analysis Management: Requires a bachelor’s (or equivalency) + 10 years or a master’s (or equivalency) + 8 years of directly related work experience.
Director, Finance Planning & Analysis Management: Requires a bachelor’s (or equivalency) + 12 years or a master’s (or equivalency) + 10 years of directly related work experience.
Preferences | CPA and Master’s degree plus ten years industry experience (University preferred). Experience utilizing AI for efficiency in reporting and analysis. Broad knowledge of accounting and finance and management. Experience as a member of the senior management team at a Tier 1 Research Institution.
