Job Title | Financial Aid Counselor
Job Description Sarah Lawrence College is seeking to fill the position of Financial Aid Counselor. This position reports to the Director of Financial Aid. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, the ability to work independently, as well as work within a team structure.Primary responsibilities include providing accurate and effective counseling regarding financial aid eligibility and assistance programs; assisting students and their families in completing the financial aid process; provide assistance regarding student account related inquiries and assisting in the administration of financial aid programs as assigned by the Director.
Essential Duties Summary Responsibilities Provide financial aid counseling to students and parents regarding all aspects of financial aid Provide and promote excellent customer service to students and parents regarding all financial matters Monitor and respond to emails and phone calls to the office Manage electronic document retrieval process including updating student records Assist with technical review of all financial aid applications and preparation of student files Assist with verification and resolution of conflicting information Assist in requesting documentation upon review of files Assist with student employment processing and inquiries Provide basic counseling regarding statements of account payment options Assist in the administration of federal, state, institutional, and outside aid programs including utilization of federal websites. Interact with appropriate outside entities in order to facilitate the student eligibility process Assist in ensuring regulatory compliance in all areas of financial aid, including federal, state, and college policies and guidelines. Participate in regular training and professional organizations to keep abreast of new information and program changes to be implemented Perform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications |
Qualifications Bachelor’s degree required One to two years of financial aid experience preferred. Will consider equivalent years of experience in higher education or financial services Familiarity with Powerfaids preferred Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills Time management; ability to cope with multiple interruptions and work under pressure of deadlines; attention to detail Self-motivated with high degree of organizational skill Excellent office skills including Microsoft Office Suite Willingness to learn new skills
