Financial Data Analyst Full Description

Job Summary:

** This is an internal job posting intended for current TCU employees only. **

The Financial Analyst is responsible for analyzing the short- and long-term financial position of the University by collecting, monitoring, studying financial results and reports, and creating and maintaining financial models and tools. This position will provide high level data insights to support the creation and evaluation of multi-year strategic projects and plans.

Duties & Essential Job Functions:

1. Compiles, analyzes, and interprets data to create reports and dashboards that track key business metrics, internal and external factors, and relevant industry trends.
2. Serves as the Budget team’s primary developer of financial data models. Collaborates with team to provide requested data and models in support of Budget and wider University initiatives, or individual departments and administrators.
3. Prepares models and reports to support the evaluation of various strategic initiatives. Provides sensitivity analysis and ad-hoc scenario forecasts and reports as requested
4. Conducts comprehensive departmental and expense analyses to ensure timely and transparent reporting of operating performance, financial trends, and budget utilization.
5. Identifies and measures cost reductions and potential efficiency gains.
6. Provides data to support in the development of the annual operating budget and multi-year financial forecasts.
7. Collaborates with other Budget team staff to prepare variance analyses and perform research to explain any differences in budget, forecast, and actuals.
8. Provides data as requested to support with the preparation of presentation materials for Board of Trustees and other internal and external parties.
9. Makes recommendations to enhance procedures and business practices in a way that will improve efficiency within the department and the university.
10. Continuously evaluates processes and analytical tools seeking to deliver dynamic, forward-thinking analyses that help identify opportunities for efficiency gains and improvement.
11. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in finance, data science, economics or related field of study.
• 3 years of equivalent experience in financial planning and analysis, finance, data analytics, or a related field.

Preferred Education & Experience:

• Master’s degree in finance, business, or related field of study.
• 3 years of financial reporting analytics or equivalent.
• Experience with data and statistical modeling, preferably Anaplan software

Preferred Licensure, Certification, and/or Specialized Training:

• Anaplan Model Builder Certification

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Knowledge of information warehouse and business intelligence software tools.
• Knowledge of customer service techniques.
• Knowledge of AI and a proactive interest in monitoring its evaluation to identify opportunities for integrating emerging tools into our workflows.
• Skill in Microsoft Office including Excel.
• Skill in navigation of Microsoft Windows.
• Ability to multi-task, detail oriented and organized.
• Ability to use historical trends to develop dynamic budgeting and forecasting models.
• Ability to communicate and present ideas clearly both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to draft grammatically correct and effective correspondence.
• Ability to demonstrate strong analytical, problem solving and research capabilities and communicate results.
• Ability to extract and analyze financial data in a computerized environment.
• Ability to work collegially and effectively with others.
