Graphic Designer Full Description

Join the University of Alaska Anchorage as a leader in our graphic design team in the Office of University Advancement. This position is responsible for developing and executing high-level advertising and design strategies that elevate UAA’s brand and support its mission. You’ll collaborate with departments across campus, supervise a talented design team, and serve as a key advisor on visual communications. The University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) Advancement Office is seeking a creative and strategic graphic designer to join our University Marketing and Communications (UMAC) team. This role plays a key part in shaping the university’s visual identity and supporting its mission through compelling design and advertising. As part of the UMAC team, this position collaborates closely with departments across campus to promote UAA’s programs, events, and initiatives through high-impact visual communications.

The ideal candidate will bring 3–5 years of progressively responsible experience in professional design or production, including supervising complex projects. A strong understanding of institutional branding, advertising strategy, and print production is essential. The candidate should also possess excellent communication skills, the ability to teach design concepts, and experience managing budgets. A bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Journalism, Communications, or a related field—or an equivalent combination of training and experience—is required.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Journalism, Communications or related field and three years of progressively responsible experience relevant to the position, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Position Details:
This position is located at the University of Alaska campus in Anchorage. This is a full-time, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 79, based on education and experience.
