The HR Generalist serves as a consultative human resource professional and the primary point of contact for employees and managers in assigned areas, providing end-to-end support across a broad range of HR matters including employee and labor relations, benefits, leave administration, HR policies, , and workforce actions. In this role, the HR Generalist independently manages employee inquiries from initial consultation through resolution, maintaining ownership of issues and coordinating across HR Partners, Centers of Excellence, and campus stakeholders as needed to ensure timely, accurate, and consistent outcomes without requiring employees to navigate multiple contacts.

Working in close partnership with an assigned HR Partner, the HR Generalist supports employees, retirees, and leaders by interpreting and applying University policies, plans, collective bargaining agreements, and employment regulations. The HR Generalist exercises sound judgment to determine when escalation or specialized expertise is required while remaining accountable for continuity and follow-through.

The HR Generalist regularly utilizes HR systems and electronic personnel records to document, track, and resolve issues, ensuring compliance with institutional policies, collective bargaining agreements, and applicable laws. This position requires discretion in handling sensitive information, strong problem-solving and communication skills, and the ability to balance employee and institutional needs, contributing to a consistent, high-quality employee experience in support of the University’s mission and values
Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
  • Bachelor’s degree with 2-5 years related experience in Human Resources or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of general HR practices and benefit plan administration
  • Proficiency with computer software and the ability to learn new systems and software

  • Work effectively with a wide range of University students, personnel, and affiliates, and across multiple disciplines

Special Conditions A probationary period may be required, This position is eligible for a hybrid schedule with an option to split time between campus and elsewhere, in accordance with the university telecommuting policy, Background Check required for this position
