Position Description
Advertised Job Summary
Under minimal supervision, manages and provides a variety of professional duties in the administration of human resources programs for the USC School of Medicine Columbia (SOMC), to include the leased Prisma Health Medical Group employees. Establishes and maintains good working relationships with the USC SOM Basic Sciences and Prisma Health Medical Group departments with which these programs are coordinated. Manages, plans, and coordinates student hires and terminations process. Provides advice and counseling to university faculty and staff and their eligible dependents concerning State and university benefits options, according to policies, procedures and guidelines. Coordinates and manages the enrollment process and conducts employee benefit/retirement/leave training. Manages the Employee events to include Benefits, employee recognition, and provides personal and professional wellness offerings. Responsible to coordinate and administer the SOMC Time and Labor and works with leaders and employees to resolve leave issues. Demonstrates commitment to conducting business lawfully and ethically by consistently adhering to compliance policies, procedures and regulations.
Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience | Requires a bachelor’s degree in a job related field and 3 or more years of job related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job related certification, training, education, and/or experience.

Preferred Qualifications | Prefer working knowledge of fundamental principles related to insurance, pension, and/or benefits administration. Supplemental knowledge of leave polices (FMLA, Sick/Annual Leave, etc.) and Worker’s Compensation. PEBA experience preferred. Prefer experience with hiring of staff, faculty, and students in compliance with USC Policies and procedures. HCM PeopleSoft, PeopleAdmin and/or PEBA-EBS experience a plus. Experience in collecting, generating, and presenting data concerning human resources issues helpful.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in written form. Knowledge of regulations, laws, processes and procedures concerning state-covered insurance and pension benefits. Knowledge and use of Microsoft office products, as well as Human Resource products HCM PeopleSoft and PeopleAdmin. Ability to handle personnel data with confidentiality. Ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously. Required to conduct business lawfully and ethically by consistently adhering to policies, procedures and regulations.

Job Duty | Manages and Facilitates required insurance/pension enrollment and change processes on behalf of university employees concerning related areas: retirement, leave and family medical leave act policies, worker’s compensation information, and issues that impact insurance and pension options for SOMC. Facilitates introductions to SC Deferred Compensation plans and provides guidance, as needed. Conducts employee insurance/pension/leave training, explains benefit options, and coordinates the enrollment process. Responsible to process and update benefit premiums via HCM and PEBA-EBS system. Counsels and Advises employees on the USC/peba policies and guidelines as they pertain to Benefits
