Scope of Job | Supports core functions of Human Resources with a focus on Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS). Assists in maintaining HR systems, generating reports, and supporting data needs for internal and external customers. Provides general technical support for HR technology-related tasks and projects.
Description of Duties | Works on problems of routine scopes where analysis of situations or data requires a review of identifiable factors; exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action; may recommend changes to existing procedures and practices based on analysis of data. Supports technology projects to ensure quality, timeliness and proper use of HR information retrieved from systems, reviews and prioritizes system maintenance and creates enhancement requests for HR Core and related modules. Ensures security of HR information through established security protocol and participates in issue tracking and resolution formulating for all HR systems. Supports the documentation of HR workflows and procedures; assists in creating user guides and basic flowcharts. Prepares reports for employee data contained in the HR system in response to requests from users within Human Resources and from users in other departments. Provides assistance to the records and reporting area with Image Now troubleshooting, I9 reporting, and other projects as needed. Resolves colleague issues/acts as “troubleshooter” for Human Resources. Works with IT, Payroll, Planning and Analysis, OIRE, Provost’s and President’s Offices in setting up tables and defining data fields to insure proper reporting of data to internal and external customers. Coordinates minor updates to HR systems, such as routine data entries or user access changes, in accordance with security protocols. Assists in analyzing HR workflow processes and makes recommendations for improvements via the use of technology; supports the specifications, development and implementation of new or redesigned business process systems, reports, and procedures for HR module users to ensure efficient business processes. Researches new techniques in the development of systems and maintains knowledge of current trends and strategies in technology fields relating to HR information system. Performs other job-related duties assigned.
Supervision Received | Direct supervision from the assigned supervisor.
Supervision Given | May supervise assigned support staff.
Required Education | Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited University in Human Resources, Business Administration, IT or related field.

Licenses/Certifications | None.
Required Experience | One (1) year related experience to include the following areas: report writing, querying, and data analysis, HRIS, ERP or database management, or Some of the required experience with a Master’s Degree from an accredited University in Human Resources, Business Administration, IT or related field.
Preferred Experience | Knowledge of software including integrations of HR, student, general ledger and budget modules as well as Microsoft Project and Visio. Knowledge of HR processes and terminology. Knowledge of state of Texas accepted accounting practices directly related to issues of reporting Human Resources data including but not limited to proper accounting of salaries and benefits, appropriate classifications of employees for reporting purposes, and conversion of state required reporting requirements for state and federal workforce and labor reports.
Equipment | Standard office equipment including personal computer, word processing, spreadsheet, and database software.
Working Conditions | Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. Some travel and weekend work is required. UTRGV is a distributed institution, which may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley.
Other | Some evening and /or weekend work and travel may be required.
