Job Description   
Tidewater Community College has served South Hampton Roads – both students and employers – for 50 years. It has grown from 1 campus into a regional educational and economic force. TCC is the largest provider of higher education and workforce services in Hampton Roads, enrolling nearly 25,000 students in 2024-25. Founded in 1968 as a part of the Virginia Community College System, Tidewater Community College (TCC) services South Hampton Roads with 4 campuses in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach, 7 regional centers and 2 important cultural institutions. The college had 3,399 graduates in 2024-2025, 40 percent of whom pursued degrees that would let them transfer to 4-year institutions. Of South Hampton Roads residents enrolled in higher education 33% enrolled at TCC. TCC’s institutional accreditation is affirmed through 2027 by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.

This part‑time position provides operational, administrative, and technical support across multiple functional areas of Human Resources. The role supports recruitment and selection activities, background and reference checks, onboarding assistance, system data entry, records management, and routine office operations.

Functional Responsibilities:
The incumbent will perform a combination of administrative, technical, and customer‑focused HR duties, including but not limited to:

Recruitment & Selection Support
· Coordinate and conduct employment background checks and reference checks in accordance with college and state requirements.
· Communicate with candidates regarding application status, next steps, and required documentation.
· Assist with the creation of recruitment documentation and tracking forms
· Assist with closing out recruitments in applicant tracking systems (e.g., PeopleAdmin)
· Assemble, scan, file, and assist with the maintenance of both physical and digital recruitment files.

Onboarding & Employment Processing Assistance
· Support HR staff with follow‑up related to onboarding or employment documentation.

HR Systems & Data Support
· Perform routine data entry, updates, and verification across multiple HR‑related systems (PeopleAdmin, PageUp, Applicant Insight, etc.).
· Assist with maintaining accurate HR records and electronic files in compliance with confidentiality and retention requirements.
· Support reporting, tracking, and organization of HR data as needed.

Administrative & Office Support
· Perform general office duties including scanning, filing, records maintenance, and correspondence.
· Assist with special projects and process improvement efforts within Human Resources.
· Greet visitors to the Human Resources office and provide front‑line customer service.
· Communicate professionally with applicants and college staff
· Respond to routine HR inquiries and redirect complex issues to appropriate HR staff.
· Maintain confidentiality and discretion when handling sensitive employee and applicant information.
Special Assignments  | May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications 
• Demonstrated experience in administrative, clerical, or operational support in an office environment.
• Proficient with PC-based software including word processing, databases, and spreadsheets (including formulas, lookups, etc.)
• Ability to perform accurate data entry, updates, and verification across multiple systems.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
• Ability to communicate clearly and professionally, both orally and in writing.
• Demonstrated customer service skills and the ability to interact tactfully with applicants, employees, and staff.
• Ability to follow established policies, procedures, and instructions.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion when handling sensitive employee and applicant information.
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
