Posting Context Statement  | Join the University of Idaho’s Institute for Interdisciplinary Data Sciences (IIDS) and play a key role in a campus-wide transformation. As IIDS Senior Project Manager, you will manage an vast portfolio of projects, with a significant focus on the execution of our new Generative AI Initiative. You will help deliver high-visibility projects that create measurable operational efficiencies and enhance research capabilities at the state’s only R1 classified research university. We are seeking a strong facilitator who can work with stakeholders, leadership and technical experts to drive technical projects from ideation to impact and help build a self-sustaining program for the future.

Position Overview  | This position will oversee a portfolio of data science projects designed to deliver measurable value to the university through operational efficiencies and enhanced research capabilities. A core focus of the position will be to manage the execution of a flagship Generative AI Initiative. This incumbent will serve as a critical collaborative bridge, facilitating communication and understanding between the Institute for Interdisciplinary Data Sciences technical teams and partnering university divisions Key responsibilities include managing the full project lifecycle of high impact projects, from initial requirements gathering and process analysis through execution, deployment and post-launch support. This position will be instrumental in managing a pipeline of competing project ideas by applying a formal prioritization framework to help leadership make informed, data-driven decisions. This position will use custom developed and enterprise software to track Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and report on project ROI to the Institute for Interdisciplinary Data Sciences and university leadership.

Duties may include: Assist project requestors with defining the requirements and scope of projects Manage project budgets Provide direction and support to project teams and track project deliverables Develop full-scale project plans, including project tasks and resource requirements Coordinate with project sponsor and necessary constituents to plan timelines and allocate resources Work with constituents to identify, document and organize user requirements for business processes Other duties as assigned

Position Qualifications 
Required Experience  | Five or more years providing project management Proven ability to build strong, collaborative relationships with a wide range of stakeholders (e.g. from frontline university staff to senior administrative leaders and faculty researchers) Ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly and turn business needs into clear technical tasks
Required Education  | Bachelor’s Degree
Required Other  | Ability to work nonstandard business hours which may include weekends and nights Ability to travel
Additional Preferred  | Experience providing project management specifically for software development, data analytics or AI/ML projects Experience providing project management in a highly complex, matrixed organization such as a university or a public sector/government organization Advanced degree with leadership experience Superior writing, composition and proofreading skills Superior problem-solving skills with a demonstrated ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely and appropriate manner Ability to work with complex and demanding issues and schedules, demonstrate sound judgement and discretion Proven project management record of accomplishment, specific experience with deployment and process engineering Understanding of data quality, data modeling and data security principles Knowledge of the University of Idaho and the State of Idaho
