Required Qualifications: Applicants must specifically address how they meet these required qualifications to meet the requirements of the position.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Technology or equivalent.
  • 2-4 years of instructional design experience in an online higher education or training environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of instructional design principles and models.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of best practices related to the development and delivery of online courses, including knowledge of effective multimedia integration in web-based courses, web-based and multimedia tools and their use in online instructional materials, interface design principles to facilitate instructional effectiveness, and formative evaluation techniques and analyses.
  • Experience consulting with faculty or other subject matter experts on the design and implementation of online course materials.
  • Experience designing online curricula, including writing instructional design specifications and applying strategies to convert face-to-face instructional activities to online delivery.
  • Ability to work productively on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work effectively independently or as part of a collaborative team with a wide variety of stakeholders.
  • Efficient and effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Highly developed organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with course management systems, such as Canvas.
  • Proficiency with commonly used e-learning authoring tools.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
  • Online portfolio showcasing applicant’s instructional design work.

  • Experiencing managing projects teams of 3 or more people.
  • Proficiency with course management systems, such as Sakai or Blackboard.
  • Proficiency with commonly used e-learning authoring tools.
  • Experience consulting on the design of on-ground active-learning/collaborative classrooms.
  • Experience training faculty on best practices in the use of collaborative classrooms, with a focus on active learning strategies.
Job Description
The Instructional Designer will design online instructional materials.
Job Duties
Share instructional design principles, processes, and effective uses of technology with stakeholders to enhance teaching and learning:
  • Collaborate with faculty on the development of objectives aligned to instructional activities and assessments.
  • Collaborate with faculty on content generation, including editing and in some cases drafting instructional content.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of design approaches.

Design and develop media-rich instructional materials:
  • Perform front-end analyses, develop design documentation, conduct quality assurance reviews, and evaluate learning using formative evaluation techniques.
  • Research and appropriately integrate technology into the design ofinstructional materials.

Effectively manage projects:
  • Develop high-level and detailed project schedules, track progress against milestones, and ensure that issues are resolved in a timelymanner.
  • Ensure ongoing communication of project status to team members and management.
  • Proactively identify and manage risks to successful project completion and implementation.

Perform other duties as assigned, including:
  • Stay current on topics and methodologies that support assigned job duties.
  • Collaborate with staff to brainstorm ideas and solve problems, check that specifications are clear and achievable, and ensure that the design intent is realized.
  • Identify design or process issues and analyze solutions to inform design standards, templates, and processes.
