Position Overview:
The Instructional Designer role is responsible for designing, developing, delivering and evaluating engaging and effective learning materials for instructor-led, virtual and e-learning environments. This role collaborates with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and stakeholders to translate complex concepts into clear, learner-centered and application-based instruction using best practice approaches in instructional design and learning theory.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Designing Learning Content: Creating courses, modules, job aids, guides, presentations and other learning materials that support online and in-person learning.
- Using Educational Theories: Applying principles of learning science, adult learning theories, and instructional models to design and develop curriculum that maximizes application and retention.
- Utilizing Technology: Using the following key suite of software for content creation; Storyline 360, Rise, Camtasia, and Adobe Creative Suite. Integrate multimedia elements such as video, audio and graphics to enhance engagement.
- Collaborating with Key Stakeholders: Working with subject matter experts (SMEs), curriculum developers, LMS Administrators, Program Owners and other stakeholders to identify program requirements.
- Evaluating and Improving Performance: Assessing the effectiveness of learning materials and making iterative improvements by conducting usability testing and gathering feedback to improve the learning experience.
- Managing Programs: Ensuring that instructional content aligns with organizational goals, standards and compliance requirements. Maintaining project documentation, revision work, major milestones and version control.
- Utilizing Learning Management Systems (LMS): Upload, test courses for functionality and correct reporting prior to deployment. Work with the LMS Administrator to relay program deployment criteria required for the training campaign.
- Facilitating Training: Facilitate in person and virtual instructor-led sessions for various programs such as new-hire orientation and manager development training.
REQUIREMENTS
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Education, Educational Technologies, Human Resources or a related field. Master’s degree in a related field is preferred but not required.
- CPTD, CPTM, ATD, PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP and/or other training certifications is preferred.
Experience:
- Five or more years of experience in designing, developing and delivering instructional materials in a corporate setting. Tasks should include:
- Designing and developing eLearning courses.
- Designing and developing facilitated instructional material.
- Conducting basic facilitation (i.e., workshops, new-hire orientation and train-the-trainer sessions).
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency with eLearning development tools such as Storyline 360, Rise, Camtasia and Adobe Creative Suite.
- Experience with Docebo (preferred) or other LMS platforms.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (MS Teams, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Familiarity with SCORM, xAPI compliance, Section 508 accessibility, and instructional system design principles.
- Strong proficiency in desktop publishing, graphic design and multi-media knowledge.
- Strong writing, editing and communication skills.

- Ability to collaborate with department leaders, training facilitators, SMEs and other key stakeholders.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develops and designs courses and curriculum.
- Edits and develops online learning materials.
- Creates learning experiences and environments.
- Designs learning activities, assignments, and assessments.
- Creates web-based training (WBT) modules and storyboards.
- Develops instructor’s manuals, rubrics, and other teaching tools.
- Collaborates with subject experts to develop course content.
- Analyzes, updates, and refines existing online content.
- Trains instructors, students, and employees in how to use learning technologies.
- Writes scripts for video and audio content.
- Works with technical staff to troubleshoot problems reported by users
- Facilitates training sessions for virtual and instructor led audiences.
