Founded in 1852, Wartburg College is a selective four-year liberal arts college of the Lutheran Church (ELCA), nationally recognized for community engagement. The college offers more than 50 academic majors and pre-professional and certificate programs leading to the bachelor’s degree. The college is located in Waverly, Iowa, a growing community of more than 10,000 residents. As part of the Cedar Valley metro area (near Waterloo and Cedar Falls), Waverly has an abundance of cultural, musical, and recreational opportunities. Instructional Designer and LMS AdministratorPosition Overview: We are seeking an experienced Instructional Designer who will also serve as our Learning Management System (LMS) Administrator. This dual role is integral to supporting our faculty in creating engaging online and blended learning experiences while maintaining the technical infrastructure that supports our mission. Responsible to the VP of Academic Affairs for supporting faculty learning and curriculum in instructional design.

Core ResponsibilitiesInstructional Design & Faculty Development (50%)Collaborate with faculty to develop effective teaching practices through strategic digital learning initiativesFacilitate workshops on instructional design best practices, emerging technologies, and evidence-based strategiesProvide pedagogical consultation and ongoing coaching to enhance teaching effectiveness and student engagementCreate accessible, interactive learning materials aligned with OSCQR standardsManage LMS resources ensuring content relevance and alignment with college prioritiesDevelop and implement instructional technology strategy with Associate Dean for Academic Affairs

LMS Administration & Technical Support (25%)Serve as primary administrator for learning management system and educational applicationsConfigure settings, manage course creation, user accounts, enrollments, and permissionsImplement system updates, troubleshoot issues, and provide timely support to faculty and studentsResearch and design LMS improvements including new features and customizationsServe as Field Admin with Canvas for direct troubleshootingDocument policies, procedures, and best practices

Assessment Support (5%)Support college assessment processes within LMS, including rubric creation and grading schemasPartner with Assistant Dean for Assessment on data requests and program outcome updatesProvide faculty training on assessment strategies and toolsAttend faculty committees as assigned

Distance Education & Quality Assurance (10%)Develop, review, and maintain online programmingServe as institutional resource and expert for online compliance requirementsChair Distance Learning Quality CommitteeDevelop and monitor assessment tools specifically for distance learning programsWork with Associate Dean for Graduate Studies on graduate learning infrastructure

Collaboration & Support (10%)Collaborate with Campus Technology Services, Registrar's office, and ITS on technology implementation and issue resolution

Required Qualifications Master's degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, or related field2+ years instructional design experience in higher educationDemonstrated LMS administration experienceTechnical proficiency in Canvas (or comparable LMS), MS Office, Camtasia, TurnItInStrong organizational, project management, and communication skillsAbility to deliver presentations and training to diverse audiences
