POSITION DETAILS
The CUNY Graduate School of Public Health and Health Policy is seeking a full-time Instructional Designer to assist faculty, students, and staff in effectively utilizing instructional systems, software, and programs. This role is essential for improving the quality and accessibility of online and hybrid courses, as well as facilitating the successful transition of courses from Blackboard to Brightspace. Responsibilities include providing daily support for instructional technologies, designing and delivering training, and collaborating with stakeholders to promote best practices in online education.

This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule.

Key Responsibilities and duties include:
  • Support for Instructional Systems: Providing day-to-day support for users (faculty, students, staff) of instructional systems, software, and programs.
  • Training and Development: Assist with the development and delivery of training and orientation sessions on the use of instructional technologies and online teaching and learning.
  • LMS Administration: Administering and maintaining the Learning Management System (LMS), including user account management, course configuration, and report generation. This might involve troubleshooting technical issues, keeping up-to-date on LMS features, and supporting LTI integrations in partnership with CUNY CIS for Brightspace and the phase-out of Blackboard.
  • Instructional Design: Designing and developing online, hybrid, and in-person courses and other learning materials. This involves applying instructional design principles and practices, collaborating with subject matter experts, and incorporating multimedia tools.
  • Troubleshooting and Support: Troubleshooting technical issues related to the LMS and its integrated applications. This might also involve tracking problem reports and documenting resolutions.
  • Technical Support: Assisting with the technical aspects of academic technologies.
  • Accessibility: Developing educational programs and instructional materials that prioritize accessibility and follow Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles and online quality standards such as Quality Matters and OSCQR (Open SUNY Course Quality Review) rubric.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree and four years' relevant experience required.

Preferred Qualifactions:
  • Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS) such as Blackboard, Brightspace, or Canvas.
  • Strong knowledge of online pedagogy, instructional design principles, and accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical issues and provide solutions in a timely manner.
