Job Description:
We are seeking a skilled Instructional Systems Designer to join our collaborative team in developing engaging learning and practice experiences for complex technical products. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong technical ability, hands-on proficiency with authoring tools and learning management systems, and have a solid foundation in learning theory and instructional strategy for curriculum development. In this role, you’ll partner with our technical writing, UX, customer support, and engineering teams to create high-quality instructional content, delivering training and professional development for Sherpa 6 employees and our Department of Defense (DoD) partners. Responsibilities:
You’re a perfect match if you:  
  • Have a proven track record of creating engaging learning activities and compelling course content that enhances knowledge transfer and retention. 
  • Can develop instructional design plans for training programs from the ground up, determine project goals, and define objectives. 
  • Are skilled at analyzing content, target audiences, job tasks, and learner environments to identify optimal instructional strategies. 
  • Can develop training materials using sound instructional design methodology, including presentations, instructor and participant guides, classroom activities, practice exercises, and handouts. 
  • Understand how to review materials for instructional quality and soundness. 
  • Have experience conducting train-the-trainer sessions for course and program updates. 
  • Experience with configuring and managing learning management systems (LMS) such as Blackboard, Canvas, and Moodle. 
  • Possess excellent knowledge of learning theories and instructional design models. 
  • Have experience in graphic design, web design, eLearning development, animation, and audio/video editing. 

You get bonus points if:  
  • Design curriculum using the ADDIE model or other established instructional design frameworks. 
  • Have experience developing interactive multimedia instruction (IMI) and interactive eLearning solutions. 
  • Use scenario-based training and problem-based learning approaches to promote critical thinking and decision making in learners. 
  • Developed training programs for law enforcement, intelligence, federal, military or classified environments, especially with knowledge of security protocols or sensitive content requirements.
  • Are familiar with DoD and federal government training environments, including relevant compliance standards. 
  • Bring knowledge of Section 508 accessibility requirements or other standards for accessible and inclusive training. 
  • Have experience creating immersive learning experiences with emerging technologies such as augmented reality, virtual reality, or simulations.  
  • Are skilled in learning analytics or assessment strategy designed to measure and improve the impact of training. 
  • Are familiar with Jira or similar ticketing system

  • Proven experience leading process mapping and documentation initiatives to support program launch, scalability, and ongoing improvement. 

Requirements
Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in Instructional Design or related field with two or more years working in an Instructional Design role with responsibility for end-to-end creation of instructor-led and/or eLearning materials

  • Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design or related field with five or more years working in an Instructional Design role with responsibility for end-to-end creation of instructor-led and/or eLearning materials 
  • Subject matter expert in Microsoft Office applications 
  • Comfortable with written communication and documentation  
  • Self-starter with the ability to dive in with minimal direction  
  • Flexible, with experience working in a fast-paced environment  
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills  
  • Proficiency with eLearning tools such as Articulate 360, Adobe Captivate, Camtasia, or LMS platforms  
  • Must obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance  
  • Must be a US citizen  
  • Must pass a background check and drug screening
