Illinois International – Global Communications at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign has an opening for an International Training and Programs Specialist.
Illinois International refers to the Office of the Associate Chancellor and Vice Provost for Global Affairs and Strategies, its shared services functions, and its reporting units. We are dedicated to supporting campus internationalization through administrative, academic, and programmatic services and initiatives. This position will be part of the Shared Administrative Services/Human Resources/Global Communication/Business Operations function. Global Communications provides expertise and services in the field of marketing and communications, including branding, public relations, speech writing, journalism, graphic design, social media, outreach, and web management. Job SummaryCoordinate and provide co-curricular programs and trainings for students, faculty, and staff that enhances international education, fosters global competency, and strengthens intercultural development.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Create and implement social and cross-cultural programs for international students, scholars, and dependents that enhance the international educational experience and meet Department of State mandates and promote international-domestic student and scholar integration.
  • Coordinate and facilitate campus workshops designed to maximize global understanding and intercultural competencies amongst university students, faculty, staff, and scholars.
  • Assist with the organization of federally mandated orientation as part of the new international student experience as well as the planning and implementation of International Education Week.
  • Collect and analyze program participation data.
  • Stay abreast of research, best practices, trends in intercultural communication facilitation and related fields.
  • Supervise volunteers and/or student workers.

Additional Physical DemandsPosition requires on campus presence. Occasional off-campus, evening, weekend, and/or overnight trips may be necessary as part of programming.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • A total of one year (12 months ) in education, training and/or work experience within international student or scholar affairs and/or while studying or working internationally. Demonstrated cultural experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience designing and implementing programs and workshops.
  • Demonstrated training or certification in intercultural communication.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of University academic and administrative policies and procedures.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from varied administrative, academic, cultural, religious, national, ethnic and linguistic backgrounds.
  • Ability to run multiple projects simultaneously.

Appointment Information
This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5002 - Program Coordinator position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the close date. The budgeted annual salary for this position is $48,500.

Civil Service employees may earn up to 28 days of vacation leave per year, depending on length of service.
