IT Systems Engineer II Full Description

Overview: 
This position leads the development, deployment, testing, and support of all user endpoint devices—including desktops, laptops, thin clients, and tablets—with primary responsibility for overseeing these activities and ensuring best practices. Key duties include creating application packages, maintaining and deploying client OS images, and managing Microsoft application servers and systems. This role also leads firmware and patch management for desktops, laptops, and printers, provides advanced troubleshooting, and delivers guidance and training to help desk staff and other team members. Collaboration with BTC colleagues is essential for efficient IT operations, and the position includes after-hours monitoring and response to service outages. Active participation in mentoring and supporting the infrastructure team's on-call process is expected.
 
Position will be based at the Beloit-Janesville Campus, and position will be required to have an on-campus presence with possibility for some remote work.

Provide technical services, support, and maintenance for BTC applications and images and associated servers and server infrastructure.
  1. Oversee OS deployments, imaging, and application delivery for BTC devices.
  2. Oversee and establish endpoint policies and configurations.
  3. Oversee and track strict deployment and patching processes for timely production rollout.
  4. Coordinate technical services and vendor consultations for application and deployment projects.
  5. Provide recommendations for image and application deployments following best practices and security standards.
  6. Ensure software and application licensing compliance.
  7. Administer servers related to end point applications.
  8. Build and support application packages with Microsoft InTune and Ivanti Endpoint Manager.
  9. Maintain and update workstation images and application packages.
 
Provide technical support and maintenance for the Microsoft Active Directory and Enterprise Anti-virus/spam.
  1. Troubleshoot and configure Active Directory, manage user accounts and security, and maintain the directory structure in coordination with technical staff.
  2. Administer enterprise endpoint security systems, including anti-virus, anti-spam, and encryption to protect BTC systems and data.
  3. Maintain hardware, firmware, and software updates for system stability.
 
Provide technical support coordination and administration function.
  1. Facilitate effective communication and comprehensive status reporting of project activities to management and cross-functional teams, ensuring thorough documentation.
  2. Establish and document technology standards in alignment with BTC and industry guidelines.
  3. Provide recommendations to management regarding process improvements by leveraging existing or emerging technologies for imaging and application packaging/deployment.
  4. Adhere to the change management process to control changes and mitigate their impact on the institution.
  5. Collaborate with systems engineers and/or vendor technical support to investigate and resolve complex server and network issues.
  6. Assess technical and College-initiated project proposals and present informed recommendations.
  7. Maintain complete documentation of system configurations and installation/support procedures.
  8. Administer, configure, and troubleshoot printers and printer mapping; oversee the print management system and coordinate with vendors as needed.
  9. Participate in the on-call rotation process.
 
Provide support for the ITS Help Desk service and operations.
  1. Oversee and guide help desk staff in installing, configuring, and maintaining end-user hardware in labs and offices.
  2. Provide Tier 2 and 3 support for ITS Help Desk operations.
  3. Use the ticketing system to fully and promptly document troubleshooting and work order status.
  4. Quickly research, log, and report hardware/software issues to vendor support.
  5. Update equipment inventories and maintain configuration and repair logs.
 
Develop and exchange information beneficial to College operations.
  1. Lead activities to maintain current knowledge of application technology.
  2. Deliver staff training and knowledge transfer as required.
  3. Participate in team meetings and College engagement events.

Required Education & Experience:
  1. Associate Degree in Information Technology or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  2. Two (2) years deploying and supporting Windows Desktop Operating systems.
  3. Two (2) years deploying and patching applications in an enterprise environment such as MS Office 365, Adobe, and SolidWorks. 
  4. Two (2) years using automated deployment systems such as SCCM/Ivanti/InTune.
  5. Two (2) years scripting using Batch, PowerShell, and VBScript.
  6. Two (2) years working with Windows Servers preferred.
  7. Technical certifications desired
