Learning and Development Manager

Boston Office

The Learning & Development Manager will work in collaboration with the Professional Development (PD) and Human Resources (HR) teams to develop curricula, create programs, and manage training to support the professional development and career success of Foley Hoag attorneys and business professionals.   

This hybrid role requires in-office presence in our Boston office at least three days per week to foster collaboration and connection. The onsite expectation is Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of each week. 

Responsibilities 
  • Collaborate with the Director of Professional Development and PD team to assess attorney needs; establish goals; and create, implement, and oversee a PD core skills training curriculum. 
  • Collaborate with Chief of HR and HR team to create and implement relevant training for Business Professionals adjacent to the PD curriculum. 
  • Create metrics to evaluate training ROI, collect and analyze feedback, assess progress on goals, and implement change as needed. 
  • Envision, design, and implement innovative approaches to training and curriculum design. 
  • Support internal presenters to maximize training effectiveness and engagement. 
  • Identify, vet, and manage external training vendors; review content and materials to ensure training is customized for firm and culture. 
  • Oversee and promote opportunities for online learning; collaborate with vendors and internal groups on use of content and integration into curricula; promote external training opportunities. 
  • Collaborate with PD Training & CLE Specialist to provide CLE-accreditation for qualifying internal programs; address CLE inquiries and provide updates on CLE changes as needed. 
  • Support training initiatives in other PD-related areas, including mentoring and review processes; recommend and implement program enhancements and best practices. 
  • Contribute to development of best practice PD materials; manage resources and training content on the firm’s Learning Center and PD intranet site. 
  • Monitor external trends and best practices in attorney professional training; share insights and offer recommendations. 
  • Contribute to other PD initiatives and programs as requested.  

Qualifications  
  • Minimum 5 years of professional development/training experience within the legal industry, preferably at a manager level, with expertise in training and curriculum design, development, and implementation.
  • High level of initiative, ownership, flexibility, creativity, and strategic vision.
  • Excellent interpersonal, team, and verbal and written communications skills, with ability to work effectively and collaboratively at all levels.
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple projects at once, realign priorities as needed, and drive projects to successful completion.
  • BA/BS required; JD or MS in Education, Organizational Development, or related field preferred.  

Compensation range is $151,000 to $184,000 commensurate with related experience and qualification. The salary of the candidate selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to internal equity, experience, specialty, and training. The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the firm's reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
