Towson University fosters a climate that is grounded in respect to cultivate the intellectual and personal growth of the entire university community.The Learning Specialist manages business and liberal arts tutors and coordinates academic support related to business and liberal arts courses, including workshops and peer-assisted learning sessions. This role recruits and assists with training tutors using CRLA guidelines. The position provides outreach to various on-campus services and works with the Directors supporting assessment, and evaluation, of the Tutoring & Learning Center.
Telework may be available for this position up to two days per week following the completion of 90 days of service in good standing. Responsibilities and Duties Tutor Coordinator - Coordinate tutoring sessions for many lower-level courses. Hire, train, and supervise peer tutors. Approve timesheets, perform observations, and identify and develop resources. Monitor budget for tutoring and evaluate need in collaborate with departments. Establish special programs as needed to assist students. Serve as liaison to the College of Liberal Arts and College of Business and Economics. Provide support for special cohorts, such as Freshman Transition Program (FTP).Assessment and Evaluation - Provide and analyze program assessment data and satisfaction survey results. Track and communicate student usage data to center directors. Work with the directors on program assessment supporting department initiatives, annual reports, and surveys.Technology Support - Assist with updating the Tutoring and Learning Center's website to provide accurate information about services. Provide secondary support for TracCloud online tracking system and technology. Maintain accurate records for BLA related services, including student usage and reporting for assessment purposes.Business and Liberal Arts Related Support – Connect both students and student employees with appropriate campus resources. Mentor students needing help transitioning to Towson University. Provide academic support to students in individualized formats or small groups.Represent the TLC - Represent the TLC at events, both on and off campus. Visit courses and provide support for department initiatives. Occasionally represent the directors at campus committee meetings. Collaborate with TLC staff and representatives of other academic offices to plan and deliver programs highlighting TLC services. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills Master's degree and two years of experience including tutoring and assessment. The selected candidate must have:excellent communication skillsstrong analytical and assessment skillsexperience with a variety of technologiesability to work collaborativelytutoring or teaching experience at the college levelability to supervise studentsPreferences include:experience with supervising studentsexperience with educational technology or social mediadegree in liberal arts, business, or education
