Highlights

Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Education or related field preferred.
Flexible schedule including evenings and weekends as needed.

Primary Purpose of Position | The Learning Specialist will provide assistance to academically at-risk student-athletes by developing, managing, implementing and monitoring a strategic study program to include providing mentors and tutors to at-risk student-athletes or student-athletes with learning-impacting disabilities. Duties include assessing the needs of at-risk student-athletes and developing success plans. Function | Administrative Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function. | Identifies student-athletes’ skill sets for college level work; designs and implements strategic instructional plans for at-risk student-athletes; engages small groups and individuals in implementation of instructional plans; monitors effectiveness of instructional plans; develops and implements learning interventions and study strategies in the areas of time management, critical thinking, reading and writing, note taking, test taking, etc.; works from a developmental perspective, meeting the student where s/he is, recognizing the diversity of need of each student, and working with a problem solving focus; demonstrated ability to provide full-range of instructional activities, including individual and group, diagnostic needs assessments, skill development, classroom management and tutoring in “learning how to learn”Function | Administrative Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function. | Provides on-going professional training to SAASS Staff and other campus academic support resources on strategies for this special population; identifies and collects data that evaluates effectiveness of available services; develops and maintains file resources related to study skills and learning strategies; responsible for monitoring academic progress of student-athletes with special needs and working in collaboration with student-athletes’ assigned SAASS staff; meets with prospective student-athletes and families when requestedFunction | Administrative Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function. | Assist students with computer usage; works cooperatively and collaboratively with other SAASS Staff to implement the learning support program and provide a supportive learning environment for all student athletes in the program; prepares reports as needed; serves on campus, local, regional and/or national committees; attends meetings; other duties as assigned
