Legal Assistant Full Description


 | Department: General Counsel
| Salary: $56,000.00 - $72,400.00
| Description: Provides technical assistance pertaining to legal matters of the University to all attorneys in the Office of the General Counsel. 

1. Maintains all litigation files.
2. Interacts with UH staff and faculty regarding legal matters. 
3. Interfaces with the Office of the Attorney General of the State of Texas regarding 
assigned cases.
4. Prepares draft pleadings for the Office of the Attorney General.
5. Monitors litigation calendar.
6. Maintains extensive communication with courts and constables' offices.
7. Files documents with courts; assists attorneys with trial preparation. 
8. Performs other job-related duties as assigned. 

MQ: "Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed. Requires a minimum of three (3) years of directly job-related experience. Requires technical certification or licensing directly related to the job, as specified on a job description addendum."

Assists in responding to Texas Public Information Act requests, subpoenas and immigration matters.
