Job Summary  | The forthcoming center on prison education research and leadership in the College of Education at the University of Utah seeks an Operations Manager to join our growing team. Reporting directly to the Center Director, this position will help manage day-to-day Center operations and collaborate with various campus units to execute the Center’s strategic goals. The ideal candidate will have experience working within a non-profit, university, or other similar organization and be able to demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, manage multi-component projects, complete tasks on time and with great attention to detail, and be in alignment with the mission and vision of the Center.

Mission and VisionWe do research that advances educational justice for people and communities harmed by incarceration. We leverage evidence-based research to change systems and reduce barriers to postsecondary education for people who are directly impacted by the legal system.

Responsibilities  | Operational and Administrative Management Work in collaboration with the Center Director to manage day-to-day Center operations and personnel support Coordinate all Center events, staff travel, and any other logistical support needed to complete projects Support the production of the Center’s Annual Report and manage the archiving of documents and other important Center material Support the planning and coordination of visits by existing and potential funders, donors, governmental agencies, project partners, and/or contractors Collaborate with the Director to ensure that all team members are informed of Center activities and major accomplishments and generally ensure that communication within the organization is clear and timely 

Project Management Provide support to the Director and leadership team to keep multiple projects on track, on time, and on budget to accomplish center goals Ensure all Center constituents are informed of deadlines, protocols, and important updates and information to maintain smooth operations and compliance with and regulations Work with the Center’s senior staff to support the implementation of projects and the various logistics and programming needs of each project

Grant Writing and Management Work with the Director to identify and support external funding efforts Collaborate with the Director and College of Education’s Office of Research, Innovation, Scholarship & Entrepreneurship (RISE)through all grant life cycle activities, including interpreting guidelines, communicating with sponsors and partners, developing proposal budgets, writing non-technical proposal components, formatting proposal documents, and ensuring compliance with applicable proposal requirements Develop strong working knowledge of the University of Utah administrative systems and processes, particularly those related to grants and contracts

Minimum Qualifications  | Requires a Bachelor’s degree in a related area of assignment or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience). Four years of progressively more responsible management experience. Background knowledge of assigned department’s area of specialization in order to analyze, plan and draw conclusions for recommendations to superiors. Demonstrated leadership skills in planning and directing employees and processes in order to effectively monitor and develop subordinates and to ensure the smooth operation of department.

Master’s degree in a related area may be preferred.
