Job Description:

The Marketing Communications Specialist serves as the primary storyteller and voice of the ASU Alumni Association. This role is responsible for developing clear, compelling and strategic copy that promotes the association's mission, programs and impact to drive meaningful engagement with alumni locally, nationally and globally.

This position partners closely with program and event leads to translate initiatives into cohesive, audience-focused messaging that not only promotes individual efforts but consistently reinforces the value of the Alumni Association and how alumni can stay connected and involved.

Salary Range: $55,000 - $58,000 per year

Essential Duties:

  • Strategic content development: Serve as the lead writer for all Alumni Association marketing and communications; generate content that highlights the value and impact of the association's ongoing programs, encouraging alumni to get involved and support initiatives; write, edit and refine copy across channels including email, web, social, print, speeches and executive communications

  • Program and event marketing integration: Partner with program and event leads to develop promotional materials, such as event invitations, flyers, emails and more that effectively communicate event details and benefits to the alumni community while reinforcing the broader Alumni Association narrative; collaborate with the marketing team to conceptualize and execute integrated marketing campaigns that drive awareness and attendance for alumni events and programs

  • Alumni engagement and audience focus: Create content that drives engagement across a wide range of alumni audiences in Arizona, across the U.S. and globally to inspire participation, foster pride and strengthen lifelong connection to ASU; tailor messaging to different alumni segments while maintaining consistency in brand voice and positioning

  • Storytelling and media collaboration: Identify and develop alumni, program and impact stories that underscore the positive outcomes of alumni engagement and contributions and elevate the Alumni Association's visibility: pitch and collaborate with internal partners (ASU News, Thrive magazine, academic units, etc.) to secure coverage and further the message; Write feature stories, recaps and impact narratives that highlight alumni success and engagement and their ties to the Alumni Association

  • Channel and content management: Own and maintain written content for alumni.asu.edu and related platforms; develop and manage email communications and recurring content streams; ensure all content aligns with ASU brand standards, AP style and best practices for digital engagement and SEO; utilizes best practices and data from the Outreach Hub when writing for email marketing, SEO, SMS and more to improve performance

  • Collaboration and execution: Work cross-functionally with marketing, events, digital and external partners to align messaging and execution; manage multiple projects simultaneously, balancing priorities and deadlines; provide editorial guidance and support to internal stakeholders to elevate overall communication quality

  • Exceptional writing, editing and storytelling skills with strong attention to detail.

  • Experience writing for diverse audiences across multiple channels.

  • Ability to translate complex or varied inputs into clear, cohesive messaging.

  • Experience in higher education, alumni relations or nonprofit communications.

  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to influence without direct authority.

Working Environment:

  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse

  • Some duties are performed outside of the office setting in various areas in and around campus, which will require standing for varying lengths of time and walking moderate distances to perform work

  • Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds

  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts
