About the Opportunity
The Network Engineer position requires a versatile technical individual who can perform network design, configuration, installation, upgrades, security, troubleshooting, planning and recommendations for upgrades. Duties are performed on a variety of network hardware including Aruba wireless and network switches, Fortinet firewalls, and Cisco Unified Communications Manager.
Where you will make an impact
- Performing regular maintenance (firmware upgrades, hardware replacement, security vulnerability remediation, etc) during approved maintenance windows on network infrastructure such as switches, routers, wireless LAN controllers, firewalls, PBX, etc.
- Providing Tier 2/3 support through analysis, diagnosis, and troubleshooting in response to service requests (Service-NOW tickets)
- Empowering help desk technicians to resolve/escalate issues efficiently by providing quality documentation for common issues
- Evaluating, recommending, and supporting policy and procedures for LAN, WLAN, WAN, routers, switches, firewall, VPN, and other hardware systems.
- Participating in disaster recovery and business continuity planning as it relates to the IT infrastructure.
- Implementing and maintaining network systems, infrastructure, and other related sub-systems to provide efficient resource utilization and performance.
- Administration of the DHCP, DNS, and RADIUS/TACACS server(s)
- Planning and implementing technical change requests including participating in change management meetings.
- Monitoring and documenting changes to the infrastructure and completing the change management process
- Assisting customers with the identification of new LAN, WAN, telephony, and wireless service needs
- Monitoring infrastructure utilization to proactively identify and resolve issues
- Making procurement recommendations as appropriate for technology refresh
- Maintaining and/or increasing technical knowledge through course work, workshops, and readings.
What you will bring
- 3-5 years of related experience
- Demonstrated strong understanding of the following:
- TCP/IP and associated protocols such as ARP, DNS, DHCP, 802.1Q, IPSEC, and NAT
- VLAN design and subnetting IP networks
- Troubleshooting methodology
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks and work on multiple assignments to meet deadlines in a changing environment
- Superb ability to communicate clearly and in detail, both verbally and in written format
- Able to occasionally lift and carry 50-100 pounds
- Able to remain stationary for long periods
- Strong teamwork and collaboration skills
- Firm understanding of structured cabling such as patch panels, ethernet, and fiber optics
- Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in computer science or network administration; or equivalent, including technical training (certifications) in campus network technologies.
- Obtain at least one industry certification within 6 months of the start of employment such as CCNA, Network+, or equivalent
Desired Skills/Knowledge/Experience
- Existing industry certifications such as CCNA, Network+, ACMP, NSE 4, or other equivalents
- Experience with Aruba, Fortinet, or Cisco systems
- Experience managing firewalls in a highly segmented network environment
- Experience designing and deploying WLAN solutions
- Experience using network analysis tools like Wireshark or tcpdump
- Experience managing LAN, WLAN, and SD-WAN network environments, as well as VoIP, site-to-site VPN, and other network applications across local and wide area networks in a multi-campus environment
- Experience implementing certificate-based authentication for VPN and/or 802.1X
- Experience with ensuring that IT infrastructure is properly specified in construction projects including meeting with architects and other stakeholders
- Experience with BGP and/or IPv6
- 3-5 years of hands-on experience managing a campus network
