Job Summary
The successful candidate will be responsible for fundraising for Convergence Hall, an exciting innovation campus currently in development at The Point of the Mountain that will be operated and managed by The Nucleus Institute. This campus will convene industry, academic, and government initiatives that will fuel Utah’s innovation economy. There will also be fundraising efforts to support ongoing programs and initiatives of the Nucleus Institute. The candidate will also help support external partnerships and business development for many Nucleus Institute programs and initiatives. Depending on experience, there will also be opportunities to develop the vision, operations, and systems of the Nucleus Fund, with a targeted focus on commercialization efforts, including assisting in the development and investment of intellectual property, technology transfer operations for The Nucleus Fund.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities:
  • Manage and maintain relationships with HNWI who have the ability to donate to The Nucleus Institute and its associated programs.
  • Seek and secure aligned grant and foundation funding opportunities.
  • Support external partnerships and business development for partnerships associated with The Nucleus Institute and Convergence Hall.
  • Ensure transparent communication and maintain strong, trust based relationships.
  • Collaborate with professors, students, and industry partners to identify research projects that have commercial potential.
  • Use existing extensive network in the business, venture capital, PE, space to expand the company’s network by attending industry events, conferences, and meetings to meet potential investors and partners for the Nucleus Fund and The Point Innovation team.
  • Support the process of securing grants, as needed.
  • All other job duties or projects as assigned by the Executive Director
  • In state travel is necessary for this position. Infrequent out of state travel may be needed at times.

Minimum Qualifications
Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred. Equivalent work experience in a related field will be considered (1 year experience is equivalent to 1 year of education).

Experience:
  • Minimum of 5 years of full-time relevant work experience supporting fundraising, business development, and commercialization is required.

Required skills:
  • Fundraising skills with a proven background of raising capital and relationship management.
  • Proven background and experience in initiating, managing, and closing deals.
  • Entrepreneurial, communication, and interpersonal skills are critical for success in this position; demonstrated ability to effectively communicate, build relationships with donors, industry leaders, professors, students and venture capital firms is required.
  • Excellent analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills to conduct due diligence on potential investment opportunities.
  • Strong organizational and systems thinking expertise and the ability to manage multiple projects at once.
  • A passion for innovation and the ability to identify new opportunities for growth.

Preferences:
Preference may be given to applicants who meet the minimum requirements of the position, plus one or more of the following:
  • Experience in sourcing, analyzing, and investing in early-stage venture capital deals.
  • Experience in commercialization, technology transfer, university administrative or research experience, and venture capital efforts around commercialization.
  • Graduate Education; PhD (one year of graduate education experience is equivalent to one year of work experience)
  • Higher education experience.
