Description University of Colorado AnschutzDepartment: School of Medicine Dean’s Office, Office of Medical EducationJob Title: OME Instructional DesignerPosition #: 00853586 – Requisition #:41241 Job Summary: | This position is housed in the School of Medicine’s Office of Medical Education - Instructional Design unit and is responsible for a variety of projects that support the Trek curriculum. The Trek curriculum is delivered at the Anschutz Medical Campus, the Fort Collins Regional Medical Campus and fourteen longitudinal integrated clerkship sites, all of which will be supported by this position. The instructional designer has responsibilities in collaborating with faculty and staff to support the development and management of curriculum materials housed in the learning management system, assist with the development of digital learning materials and media, coordinate instructional design projects, and provide training and support on educational technologies. The position also supports faculty in planning and developing curriculum content and learning activities for in-person, hybrid, and online environments to improve student learning experiences. The successful candidate will have strong project coordination, prioritization, communication, and organizational skills and a bachelor’s degree in learning sciences, instructional design, digital education, eLearning, or a closely related field, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience. Preferred qualifications include relevant experience in online learning and higher education, including potential experience in a medical school setting, and an advanced degree in a related field. Experience working with learning management systems/online learning platforms, web conferencing tools, video post-production, interactive learning tools, and other multimedia technologies, as well as strong interpersonal, analytical, and customer service skills, are preferred for success in this position.
Key Responsibilities:
Instructional Design (30%) Support Course/Content Directors and faculty subject matter experts in developing effective and engaging learning activities and course content, with guidance from the Instructional Design Program Manager and instructional design team. Assist with developing content that aligns with established learning outcomes and instructional design standards. Help organize and simplify complex information into clear, easy-to-understand instructional materials. Assist with developing instructional graphics, user interfaces, and other components of the finished learning product. Apply established instructional design principles, practices, and methods with guidance from experienced team members. Support quality and consistency reviews of course content and learning materials. Collaborate with the instructional design team to support an innovative teaching and learning environment across pre-clinical, didactic, clinical, and advanced medical education. Learning Objects and Digital Education/Media (20%) Support the development of digital education and media in collaboration with the Instructional Design Program Manager and instructional design team. Work with Course/Content Directors and faculty to develop supporting accessible learning materials and media, such as audio, video, simulations, games, and other learning objects. Assist with reviewing and evaluating the effectiveness of digital media and learning objects using established methods and measures. Assist with collecting and organizing data for periodic reports on digital education and media activities. Support the implementation of digital education strategies and new learning technologies under the direction of the Instructional Design Program Manager. Apply established branding, layout, accessibility, and content standards across digital media and learning materials, including materials developed in Canvas. Assist with developing and updating resources to support faculty, staff, and students in using educational technologies. Maintain and organize digital learning object libraries and related resources in accordance with established processes. Project Coordination (20%) Assist with coordinating project schedules and calendars for learning objects, course design, faculty development, and training related to OASIS, Canvas, and other educational projects. Support project planning by gathering stakeholder needs, documenting requirements, and assisting with the development of project timelines and deliverables. Maintain project trackers and assist with monitoring timelines, deliverables, roles, and responsibilities. Identify and communicate project updates, questions, and potential issues to the Instructional Design Program Manager or appropriate project lead. Assist with resolving routine project, process, and procedural issues and escalate complex issues to the manager or appropriate team member. Participate in cross-functional projects and collaborate with faculty, staff, and other stakeholders as assigned. Faculty Development (20%) Assist with faculty training and development activities that support curriculum development and effective teaching and learning practices. Support the development and maintenance of learning activity standards, templates, and other resources for faculty use. Assist faculty with planning and developing learning activities using established instructional design practices and templates. Co-facilitate or provide basic training and demonstrations for faculty and staff, with guidance and support from the Instructional Design Program Manager or instructional design team. Develop and update training materials and resources based on established needs and instructional design standards. Systems and Process Training (10%) Assist with training faculty and staff on OASIS and Canvas features that support the teaching and learning environment. Serve as a first point of contact for routine questions related to course builds and established Canvas processes, escalating complex questions as appropriate. Assist students with basic Canvas questions and provide existing resources and training materials to support synchronous and asynchronous learning. Develop and update basic training materials, job aids, and resources for faculty, staff, and students using established templates and guidance. Support the delivery of synchronous and asynchronous training for faculty and staff responsible for curriculum delivery. Coordinate with the instructional design team to identify common training questions and opportunities to improve user support.

Hybrid – this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of three (3) days per week on campus and as needed for in-person meetings.

Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/military/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis.
