Title: Production Editor (Contract)

We are seeking a contract Production Editor to manage the production process for selected products, ensuring delivery on time, on budget, and aligned with quality and technical standards.

Job Purpose:  
The Production Editor is responsible for managing all necessary production-related tasks from unedited content through to release for distribution/sale for digital, print, and multimedia product and associated supplements. The successful candidate will handle multiple projects at various production stages concurrently, following standard and bespoke workflows; collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to meet deadlines; managing production schedules and budgets; and publishing products that align with quality and technical standards. 

Duties and responsibilities:
•    Serve as assigned project manager for concurrent digital/print projects at various stages in the production process, establishing clear timelines and expectations for stakeholders.
•    Assess content projects for completeness and consistency, evaluating and accounting for unique production needs (e.g., copyediting, design, multimedia); review front matter, covers, and supplementary materials.
•    Select, engage, and manage vendor(s) to accomplish key tasks and activities; supervise and critically review copyediting and vendor performance to ensure alignment to house style and standards. 
•    Develop a detailed project schedule; track and monitor progress; maintain detailed and accurate accounting of project status and vendor performance, addressing and/or escalating potential risks throughout production process. 
•    Coordinate and monitor corrections; identify and resolve global quality concerns; enforce adherence to style guide as needed. 
•    Lead transmittal meetings for assigned projects; provide regular reporting of project status and risks to stakeholders. 
•    Maintain clear, timely, and professionally assertive communication with internal colleagues, authors, and service providers.
•    Work cooperatively within team and across organization, collaborating effectively to adhere to desired project plans and test or implement process improvements as needed.

Qualifications:
•    BA/BS or equivalent
•    Minimum of 5 years of experience in book production, ideally in nursing, medicine, or other health professions
•    Experience in content production across print and digital formats.
•    Excellent grammar, language, and communication skills
•    Proficiency in copyediting and familiarity with APA (American Psychological Association), AMA (American Medical Association), and Chicago citation styles
•    Familiarity with rights and permissions processes; art and design process
•    Ability to work independently to handle multiple projects simultaneously, meet established deadlines, and communicate proactively on project status, quality, and cost
•    Detail-oriented with a high degree of accountability and personal urgency
•    Proficient knowledge of XML, DITA, and XML-first composition workflows
•    High proficiency in Microsoft Office suite; familiarity with component content management systems and other digital workflow tools

Physical Requirements:
•    Travel to corporate headquarters (Princeton, NJ) as required
