Required Qualifications: Applicants must specifically address how they meet these required qualifications to meet the requirements of the position.
  • Bachelor’s degree or a minimum of 10 years working as a School Based Law Enforcement peace officer in a K-12 Texas public school district
  • Demonstrated experience in SBLE curriculum and logistics for hosting and providing training in various locations
  • Demonstrated experience in adult training methodologies and practices
  • Five years of professional experience in successful team leadership (supervisory role) for a law enforcement agency
  • Demonstrated experience in creating programmatic and/or promotional content for virtual and in-person trainings and events
  • Demonstrated membership in at least one statewide Texas law enforcement association/organization
  • Demonstrated excellent writing skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge and usage of online training platforms and communication tools (Zoom, TEAMS, etc.)
  • Knowledge and ability to use Microsoft Office applications
Preferred Qualifications
  • Training and practice in team resolution or conflict management
  • Demonstrated experience in overseeing a statewide initiative or program

Job Description
The Texas School Safety Center (TxSSC) is an official university-level research center at Texas State University. The TxSSC is tasked in Chapter 37 of the Texas Education Code and the Governor’s Homeland Security Strategic Plan with key school safety initiatives and mandates. The TxSSC serves as the clearinghouse for the dissemination of safety and security information through research, training, and technical assistance for K-12 schools and junior colleges throughout the state of Texas. As a result, Texas has become a national leader in school safety practices and is relied upon for assistance and guidance from jurisdictions throughout the nation.
The TxSSC is seeking candidates that are highly experienced in the field of school-based law enforcement (SBLE) and school safety and are interested in having a positive impact on the safety and security of Texas schools. This position will have the unique opportunity to oversee all the logistical and planning aspects of statewide SBLE training and education within the department and will ensure compliance with all contractual obligations. This position will supervise all the systematic, organizational and performance functions of planning and implementing SBLE trainings and educational programs as well as serving as programmatic liaison and contact with key contractors and stakeholders statewide. This position will also oversee and serve as the direct contact for numerous required internal, external, and state-level reports. This position allows for considerable latitude for independent judgment, initiative and action within the program.
Job Duties
  • Support the implementation of Texas School Safety Center mission and vision.
  • Supervise and support the SBLE program staff in their development and implementation of training and education programming.
  • Oversee, support and provide guidance on SBLE programmatic implementation within statewide programs such as the Center’s annual School Safety Conference.
  • Oversee, support and provide guidance on the planning, curriculum development and implementation of SBLE statewide trainings to include marketing, communication, recruitment plan, identifying and scheduling of presenters, materials and curriculum development, logistics, securing site location, assessments, ensuring participating groups report on projects/events implemented, etc.
  • Research best practices in organizational training and education management and implementation, including digital platforms.
  • Travel to remote locations to review and facilitate trainings.
  • Maintain knowledge and expertise regarding the management and implementation of organizational training and education.
  • Oversee, support and provide guidance on the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual program summary reports to meet reporting requirements and deadlines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
