QA Engineer 2 Platform
The QA Engineer 2 participates as a member of Frontline’s Platform Engineering Quality organization, supporting engineering pods across Identity Platform, Core Services, UI Platform, Data Platform, and AI Enablement teams. This role reports to the QA Manager and works closely with Engineering Managers, Technical Leads, Product Managers, Architects, UX teams, and Software Engineers throughout the product lifecycle.
QA Engineers operate as embedded quality engineering partners within engineering pods, helping ensure platform capabilities are reliable, scalable, secure, operable, testable, and ready for adoption across Frontline’s product ecosystem.
The QA Engineer 2 participates throughout discovery, refinement, implementation, testing, delivery, operational support, and continuous improvement activities. While this role is expected to work independently on assigned features and stories, more complex testing strategies and cross-platform quality initiatives are developed in partnership with Senior QA Engineers.
QA Engineers 2 contribute to manual testing, automated testing, API validation, integration testing, and regression testing while continually expanding their technical depth and automation capabilities.
Reporting Structure
- Reports directly to the QA Manager.
- Operates within engineering pods with dotted-line collaboration responsibilities to pod Technical Leads.
- Works closely with Product Management, Engineering, Product Design, Architecture, Security, and Platform teams.

Engineering teams within Platform operate within a product-oriented delivery model emphasizing customer outcomes, continuous discovery, shared ownership, and cross-functional collaboration.
The QA Engineer 2 is expected to:
- Participate in discovery, backlog refinement, and sprint planning to help ensure requirements are testable and acceptance criteria are well defined.
- Collaborate closely with engineers and Product Management to identify quality risks, edge cases, and appropriate validation approaches.
- Execute high-quality testing activities and contribute to team quality outcomes.
- Contribute to automated testing alongside manual validation.
- Balance delivery speed with software quality and operational reliability.
- Continuously improve testing practices and engineering knowledge.
- Demonstrate ownership of assigned work while seeking guidance from more senior engineers when appropriate.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Engineering & Test Strategy
- Participate in discovery and refinement activities to ensure stories are testable and acceptance criteria are complete.
- Develop and maintain test plans, test cases, and validation approaches for assigned work.
- Execute functional, regression, integration, exploratory, and API testing.
- Identify and clearly communicate software defects and quality risks.
- Contribute to improving testing practices and release confidence within the engineering pod.
- Partner with Senior QA Engineers on larger initiatives and more complex testing scenarios.
Test Automation & Validation
- Develop, maintain, and execute automated tests supporting frontend, backend, API, and integration testing.
- Work with Software Engineers to incorporate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines.
- Utilize automation tools such as:
- Playwright
- Selenium
- Cypress or similar frameworks.
- Contribute to testing cloud-native services and distributed platform capabilities.
- Help maintain reliable automated test suites as the platform evolves.
Performance & Non-Functional Testing
- Demonstrate awareness of performance, scalability, resiliency, and operational quality considerations.
- Execute performance and load tests developed by the team.
- Assist with analyzing test results and identifying potential performance concerns.
- Contribute to validating operational readiness and production quality.
Collaboration & Engineering Partnership
- Partner closely with Software Engineers, Technical Leads, Product Managers, and Architects throughout the delivery lifecycle.
- Participate in Design Sketch reviews, backlog grooming, and sprint ceremonies from a quality engineering perspective.
- Communicate testing progress, quality risks, and validation results effectively.
- Collaborate with Senior QA Engineers to improve engineering quality practices.
- Foster a shared ownership mindset for software quality across the engineering pod.
AI-Assisted & Agentic Engineering Practices
The expectation should remain that every Platform engineer is proficient with GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Codex, etc.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- 2-5 years of professional quality engineering or software testing experience.
- Experience with manual and automated software testing.
- Experience testing web applications, REST APIs, and distributed systems.
- Experience with modern testing tools such as Playwright, Selenium, Cypress, or similar frameworks.
- Working knowledge of API testing, integration testing, regression testing, and CI/CD concepts.
- Familiarity with performance testing concepts and operational quality considerations.
- Experience working within Agile/Scrum software development teams.
- Strong analytical, communication, and collaboration skills.
Preferred
- Experience testing cloud-native applications on AWS.
- Familiarity with Kafka or event-driven architectures.
- Experience testing multi-tenant SaaS applications.
- Familiarity with K6 or other performance testing tools.
- Experience using AI-assisted software development tools.
- Experience working with geographically distributed engineering teams.

Compensation
$90,000-$100,000 a year plus 4.5% bonus
