Senior Budget Analyst - Financial Analysis Full Description

Job Summary:
The Senior Budget Analyst – Financial Analysis is responsible for analyzing the short- and long-term financial position of the University by collecting, monitoring, studying financial results and reports creating and maintaining financial models and tools. This position will have exposure to senior staff and work on multi-year strategic projects and plans.
 
Duties & Essential Job Functions:
1. Compiles and analyzes financial information and interprets the data. 
2. Maintains processes and tools and creates reports to track key business metrics, internal and external factors, and relevant industry trends. 
3. Evaluates various strategic initiatives and provides sensitivity analysis and ad-hoc scenario forecasts and reports. 
4. Provides department and expense analysis ensuring timely transparency in operating performance and trends.
5. Identifies and measures cost reductions and potential efficiency gains with the Financial Planning and Budget team. Seeks to deliver dynamic, forward-thinking analysis that could lead to action. 
6. Assists in the development of the annual budget and monthly forecasts and develops the long-term view in coordination with the Financial Planning and Budget team. 
7. Supports variance analysis and research to explain any differences in budget, forecast and actuals. 
8. Supports the preparation of presentation materials for Board of Trustee and other internal and external parties. 
9. Drives enhancement of procedures and business practices that improve efficiently within the function and the university. 
10. Acts as a consultant to help departments understand the financial impact of their business decisions, providing alternatives with accompanying analytics. 
11. Works with accounting and the organization to ensure thorough knowledge of financial data/information sources and quality. 
12. Performs other related duties as assigned.
 
Required Education & Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, or related field of study. 
• 5 plus years’ experience in financial planning and analysis, finance, or related field.
 
Preferred Education & Experience:
• Master’s degree in finance, business, or related field of study.

• Anaplan Experience

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
• Knowledge of PeopleSoft Financials and Supply Chain Module.
• Knowledge of PeopleSoft Reporting Tools and PeopleTools. 
• Knowledge of PeopleSoft nVision. 
• Knowledge of PeopleSoft system configuration and testing.
• Knowledge of Anaplan – Models, Modules, Pages, and Apps. 
• Knowledge of customer service techniques.
• Skill in Microsoft Office, including advanced level Excel – Macros, Formulas, Pivot tables, etc. 
• Skill in navigation of Microsoft Windows.
• Skill in advanced reporting and trend analysis.
• Skill in Visual Basic or other programming language.
• Ability to multi-task, detail oriented and organized. 
• Ability to use historical trends to develop dynamic budgeting and forecasting models.
• Ability to communicate and present ideas clearly both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to draft grammatically correct and effective correspondence.
• Ability to use Microsoft Outlook as an efficient tool for emails, meetings, and calendars. 
• Ability to demonstrate strong analytical, problem solving and research capabilities and communicate results.
