Senior Business Intelligence Analyst Full Description

At AoPS, data sits at the heart of how we grow and deliver our mission. We serve tens of thousands of students around the world, generating data about how families discover us, how students learn, and how our operations scale. Yet, like our curriculum and teaching, the true value of our data comes from how well we can translate it into actionable insight.

AoPS is unique because it brings together academics, operations, and technology under one roof. We design our own curriculum, run physical academies, deliver online courses, and build the platforms that power it all. This created a rich and complex data environment–one that grew organically as the business grew, and we are working on creating a more cohesive stack so every business line runs on the same system. Your job will be to turn raw data into clear, actionable insights, while proactively identifying areas for improvement.
We are hiring for two Senior Business Intelligence Analyst roles. One will work with our Delivery and Operations department and the other with Academics. They will bridge the gap between the data that our operations and customers generate and the business decisions that improve learning outcomes and operational excellence.

The Senior Business Intelligence Analyst will:
  • Take ownership of business intelligence for assigned departments, ensuring data tools and reports are accurate and support strategic goals
  • Partner with stakeholders to translate business questions into KPIs and measurable outcomes that align with team and organizational goals
  • Work with the data team to define and govern the metrics and dimensions needed to support consistent, reliable, and scalable reporting
  • Write SQL queries to power analyses, self-serve tools, and dashboards
  • Design, maintain, and regularly update dashboards to ensure they reflect the latest data and changing priorities
  • Champion data literacy and effective use of BI tools across the organization, strategically encouraging adoption and decision-making impact
  • Proactively investigate patterns and anomalies in data to uncover meaningful trends and separate actionable insights from background noise

The ideal candidate has:
  • 5+ years experience working in business intelligence, data analytics, or a related role, with a track record of driving measurable business impact
  • Understanding of statistical concepts such as hypothesis testing, variance analysis, data quality, and correlation versus causation
  • Experience using business intelligence dashboarding tools such as Lightdash, Power BI, Tableau, Looker, Mode, or Metabase (we use Lightdash)
  • Strong SQL experience with data warehouses such as Redshift, Snowflake, or Big Query, including an understanding of data modeling, transformations, and schema design (we use Redshift and dbt for data transformations)
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to gather requirements from stakeholders and translate complex findings into actionable insights for senior leaders
  • Nice to have: Advanced statistical analysis using Python or R, and experience writing data models with dbt
