Job Description
Job Summary:
The Senior Manager of College and Career Advising leads and manages the college and career counseling program at the high school level. The Senior Manager is accountable for postsecondary match results and ensures that every student is supported in achieving strong, sustainable college and career outcomes. This leader drives strategy, data-informed decision-making, and alignment between high school, KIPP Forward, and regional leadership to promote equitable access to postsecondary opportunities for all students.

Key Responsibilities:
Student & Family Engagement 
  • Support one-on-ones by establishing systems to ensure every junior and senior has a postsecondary plan
  • Oversee planning of parent nights, FAFSA night, college visits, guest speakers, and career exploration trips.
  • Facilitate collaboration and consistent communication across students, stakeholders, teams, and families.
  • Observe seminar classes to ensure internal curriculum is being implemented with fidelity
School Leadership Team 
  • Serve as a member of the School and Grade-Level Leadership Teams to provide key insights on students’ postsecondary goals and progress.
  • Lead department meetings and professional development related to KIPP Forward (including bi-monthly counseling team meetings to review data).
  • Facilitate monthly Match Meetings alongside the KIPP Forward Director with school, regional, and C-Suite leadership.
  • Strengthen communication between high school and KIPP Forward supportive teams to continuously improve college and career outcomes.
College and Career Advising Leadership
  • Lead execution of the College & Career Match strategy, including Early Decision cohorts and senior personal statement development.
  • Sustain partnerships with colleges, universities, scholarship programs, and career organizations, such as KC Scholars; and serve as the main point of contact.
  • Stay informed about policies and updates affecting postsecondary access, including for special populations (e.g., undocumented students, students with IEPs).
  • Support the Nudge for Match program through campaigns and counseling integration.
Culture & Equity Practices 
  • Build a positive, inclusive, and goal-oriented counseling team culture.
  • Provide professional development, coaching, and performance feedback to counselors and college readiness teachers.
  • Conduct regular one-on-one check-ins with direct reports and participate in check-ins with school and regional leadership.
  • Manage training for high school staff supporting students through the college application process (e.g., letters of recommendation).
Goals and Data Management
  • Partner with KIPP Forward and school leadership to set annual student-centered postsecondary goals.
  • Lead data tracking and progress monitoring for key metrics, including BA/BS enrollment and overall postsecondary placement.
  • Conduct cyclical data reviews in Monthly Match Meetings to assess progress and adjust strategies.
  • Ensure accurate data entry and maintenance in systems such as Salesforce, Overgrad, and Google Suite.
Instructional Leadership
  • Collaborate with high school leadership to schedule and staff Junior and Senior seminars.
  • Observe seminars weekly and provide actionable instructional feedback.
  • Lead implementation and refinement of KIPP’s College Knowledge and Career Success Curriculum.
  • Oversee seminar assessment implementation and regularly review outcomes with instructors.
 
Qualifications
Qualifications Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred)
  • 5+ years of experience in college counseling, postsecondary advising, or related field.
  • Demonstrated success leading teams and improving student outcomes.
  • Strong knowledge of college admissions, financial aid, and postsecondary access for diverse populations.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and data management skills.
Preferred:
  • Experience in K–12 education, preferably in a charter or college access setting.
  • Familiarity with Salesforce, Overgrad, or similar student tracking systems.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) proficiency is a plus.
