Job Description | The Sr. Video Content Creator brings the Syracuse University brand to life through dynamic and compelling multimedia production. This role requires a highly skilled professional who can seamlessly transition between high-concept production shoots and high-quality post-production work. Combining artistic vision with technical expertise, this position ensures the final product aligns with Syracuse University’s marketing and branding goals.
This individual will play a critical role in the ideation, production, and post-production of multimedia content. Comfortable taking creative leadership on-site, they will collaborate across the content, design, strategy, and digital teams within the Division of Marketing. With expertise in cameras, lighting, Adobe Premiere, and sound design, this role demands someone who can conceptualize at a high level and execute with precision – whether in production or post-production. Additionally, the role requires flexibility for quick-turn content needs from time to time.
Education and Experience | Bachelor’s degree in film, Media, Communications, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience. Minimum of 6-8 years of experience in high-performing video production or multimedia content creation, preferably in a fast-paced marketing, journalistic, or other creative environment. Proven track record of producing high-quality video content that adheres to brand guidelines.
Skills and Knowledge | Advanced proficiency in Adobe Premiere & other relevant editing software (Final Cut Pro, After Effects, etc.). Strong knowledge of post-production workflows, sound design, color grading, & video/audio editing. Strong understanding of marketing, brand stewardship, & communication best practices. Works well independently/collaboratively. Ability to adapt & deliver high-quality, polished video content & quick-turn content (as needed). Able to ideate, conceptualize, & execute w/ high artistic & technical standards. Excellent communication skills, ability to problem-solve during shoots or post-production based on feedback. Strong creative energy, proactive and can provide innovative solutions & pushing creative boundaries while adhering to brand standards. Close visual acuity to perform tasks including visual framing, color grading, color temperature, focus & the use of color charts. Ability to perceive the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with/without correction, including professional voiceover, audio equipment & appropriate audio levels. Ability to physically move, lift, set up, & break down audio/visual equipment (25-50 lbs) across multiple locations, with flexibility in positioning for various shoots (standing, kneeling, sitting, etc. for extended periods).
Responsibilities |
Creative Production & Videography Lead and execute high-concept shoots that bring the Syracuse University brand to life, capturing dynamic video content in collaboration with various marketing stakeholders. Set up and operate production equipment, including cameras, audio, lighting, and other multimedia tools, for field and studio productions. Demonstrate a strong ability to select dynamic angles and compose shots with precision and visual intent, ensuring the content is both aesthetically compelling and aligned with the university’s brand standards. Collaborate with marketing channel leaders to ensure content aligns with strategic goals and brand guidelines. Convey openness to input in pre-production and production settings and exhibit a willingness to thoughtfully incorporate shared ideas into the creative process.
Post-Production Editing Lead post-production work, including editing, sound design, color grading, and content assembly using Adobe Premiere and other relevant tools. Work with tight deadlines to quickly turn raw footage into high-quality, polished content for multiple platforms while maintaining creative vision. Adapt quickly to evolving project needs, making editing decisions that align with shifting goals. Embrace collaborative process during edits and revisions, integrating feedback to elevate the final product. Support project closeout workflows by ensuring accurate metadata tagging, organized asset management, and proper archiving of digital content.
Collaborative Ideation & Concepting Work proactively with cross-functional teams (creative, design, digital, and content strategy) to conceptualize and brainstorm multimedia ideas. Contribute to creative direction discussions and drive innovative approaches to content production. Stay ahead of trends and contribute fresh, creative ideas to enhance the multimedia strategy at Syracuse University.
Maintenance & Equipment Maintain and organize production equipment, ensuring all gear is ready for use and performing preventative maintenance as needed. Assist in the upkeep of studio and field production sets.
Other Duties as Assigned Provide assistance on additional ad-hoc creative and technical tasks as needed.
