Software Developer / Analyst Full Description

Hiring Department: University Housing and Dining (UHD)

Location: UT Main Campus, Austin, TX

Weekly Scheduled Hours: 40, Monday through Friday, with occasional extended hours during peak periods and in-person meetings/events required

Salary Range: $79,000+, depending on qualifications

Purpose: Assists internal and external customers by developing, maintaining, and enhancing administrative applications used by University Housing and Dining, serving as a technical expert in decisions to upgrade current software systems with newer technologies and/or third-party software.

Responsibilities:

Develops, maintains, and enhances current custom legacy software systems, including Python/Django, Oracle, and SQL systems used by UHD staff and customers, and develops new applications on modern platforms based on business needs
Develops, maintains, and enhances systems integrations between current and future UHD systems, including CS Gold, StarRez, Mainframe, and Workday, prioritizing automation of processes over manual interactions
Manages tickets submitted in the ticket system, proactively researching, problem-solving, and replying to customers in a timely manner
Stays current on campus technology changes through formal and informal training and participation with campus technology groups, collaborating and knowledge-sharing with other developers/analysts
Participates in UHD meetings, events, classes, and training, and interacts with other IT and business areas on campus as needed
Assists with training users on new and updated software, including reporting on new features and enhancements, and updates documentation accordingly

Required Qualifications:

One year of production software development experience using Python and/or Natural/ADABAS

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in an IT-related field
Experience with University Housing and Dining systems
Experience with a version control system such as Git
Basic understanding of relational databases such as MySQL or Oracle
Demonstrated ability to analyze, test, document, and debug code
Experience with The University of Texas IT environment
Demonstrated ability to manage shifting priorities and work on multiple concurrent projects while adhering to deadlines
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong analytical and organizational abilities
Demonstrated ability to be self-motivated, work independently and as part of a team, and learn and apply new technologies
