HistoSonics is a commercial-stage medtech company advancing the Edison® System, a novel non-invasive sonic beam therapy based on histotripsy. Since receiving FDA De Novo grant for the non-invasive destruction of liver tumors in 2023, the company has progressed beyond initial market entry into commercial expansion, reimbursement momentum, and ongoing clinical and pipeline development. In addition to its current liver tumor indication, HistoSonics is pursuing future indications across multiple applications including kidney, pancreas, prostate, neuro, women’s health, and other significant underserved human health areas, to realize the broader potential histotripsy across multiple disease states and medical specialties.

Position Summary (Why this role matters):

The Senior Clinical Training Specialist is responsible for delivering, executing, and advancing HistoSonics’ standardized onboarding and clinical training programs for Clinical Regional Managers, Account Managers, Clinical Specialists, Procedural Development Specialists, and other designated field-based roles. This position serves as a senior instructor and subject-matter resource within the Clinical Training team, leading Foundations and Advanced Training while delivering classroom education, hands-on simulation, product training, and competency-based learning experiences that prepare employees for successful field immersion.

Working closely with the Clinical Training Manager and cross-functional partners, the Senior Clinical Training Specialist ensures consistent, scalable, and high-quality onboarding experience by delivering standardized curriculum, evaluating learner progress, identifying development needs, and preparing new hires for transition into the field development phase of onboarding.

In addition to training delivery, the Senior Clinical Training Specialist plays a key role in advancing the effectiveness and scalability of the training program. This includes contributing to curriculum development, mentoring and supporting Clinical Training Specialists, identifying opportunities to improve instructional methods, and supporting the integration of new products, software enhancements, clinical indications, and evolving clinical practices into training programs.

This position requires a highly experienced clinical educator who can independently facilitate complex clinical and technical education, adapt instruction to diverse learner needs, and serve as a trusted resource across the Clinical Training organization.

Key Responsibilities

New Hire Onboarding and Training Delivery

  • Lead the classroom-based portion of the organization’s standardized 12-week onboarding program, including Foundations and Advanced Training, by facilitating instructor-led education, assessing knowledge progression, and preparing new hires for successful field immersion.
  • Independently facilitate engaging instructor-led classroom sessions, virtual training, hands-on workshops, simulation-based learning, and skills laboratories.
  • Deliver advanced education on disease states, anatomy, histotripsy technology, mechanism of action, product knowledge, procedural workflows, Edison System operation, and customer engagement best practices.
  • Reinforce standardized clinical workflows, organizational processes, clinical expectations, and customer engagement standards throughout onboarding.
  • Evaluate learner progress through written assessments, practical demonstrations, competency checklists, simulation activities, and knowledge validation.
  • Identify individual learner development needs and provide targeted coaching, feedback, and remediation strategies to support readiness for field immersion.
  • Partner with Clinical Applications and field leadership to support effective learner transition from formal training into field-based development.
  • Ensure onboarding milestones, training records, competency documentation, and Learning Management System (LMS) requirements are completed accurately and on schedule.
  • Deliver education related to product enhancements, software releases, new clinical indications, and evolving clinical and technical best practices to maintain organizational readiness.

Training Program Development and Continuous Improvement

  • Partner with the Clinical Training Manager to continuously evaluate and improve onboarding curriculum, instructional methodology, training materials, and overall program effectiveness.
  • Take a lead role in developing and updating presentations, facilitator guides, simulation exercises, competency assessments, job aids, case-based learning activities, and digital learning resources.
  • Translate complex clinical, technical, and procedural information into effective learner-centered educational experiences.
  • Support the integration of new software releases, products, clinical evidence, procedural workflows, and business initiatives into standardized training programs.
  • Identify gaps in existing training programs and recommend solutions to improve learner readiness, consistency, and scalability.
  • Maintain standardized training materials and ensure consistency in content delivery and learner expectations across onboarding cohorts.
  • Support the development and implementation of new training methodologies, simulation strategies, and competency-based education approaches.
  • Assist in measuring training effectiveness through learner feedback, assessment performance, competency outcomes, and other program metrics.

Trainer Development and Mentorship

  • Serve as a senior instructional resource and mentor to Clinical Training Specialists and other internal subject-matter experts participating in training programs.
  • Support the onboarding and development of new Clinical Training Specialists, including facilitation coaching, content preparation, and instructional best practices.
  • Observe training delivery and provide constructive feedback to support consistency and continued development across the training team.
  • Model effective adult-learning principles, facilitation techniques, learner engagement strategies, and competency-based education.
  • Support trainer readiness and certification initiatives to expand organizational training capacity.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Clinical Applications, Medical Affairs, Commercial, Marketing, Product Development, and other cross-functional stakeholders to ensure training content remains clinically accurate, technically current, and aligned with organizational objectives.
  • Serve as a Clinical Training subject-matter resource during the development and implementation of new products, software enhancements, clinical indications, and procedural workflows.
  • Collaborate with internal clinical and technical subject-matter experts to translate emerging knowledge into standardized training content.
  • Support the coordination and execution of onboarding events, training laboratories, internal education programs, and other clinical training initiatives.

Position Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in a clinical, healthcare, education, or related discipline.
  • Minimum 7–10 years of progressive experience in a clinical training, clinical education, medical device education, clinical applications, or comparable training-based role.
  • Demonstrated experience independently delivering complex clinical, technical, or medical device education to healthcare professionals or field-based employees.
  • Demonstrated experience developing, implementing, or significantly improving clinical training programs, curricula, or competency-based education.
  • Strong understanding of adult-learning principles, instructional methodologies, competency assessment, and learner-centered education.
  • Strong understanding of image-guided procedures, clinical workflows, treatment workflows, and physician or healthcare professional training models.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex clinical and technical concepts into clear, practical, and effective educational content.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess learner performance, identify development gaps, and provide effective coaching and remediation.
  • Proven ability to collaborate and influence across cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to independently manage multiple training priorities in a fast-paced and rapidly evolving environment.
  • Ability to travel approximately 25%.

Preferred

  • Experience with Class II or Class III medical devices.
  • Experience developing or leading clinical training programs within interventional medicine, medical imaging, robotics, or other complex medical technologies.
  • Experience mentoring, precepting, or developing other clinical educators or trainers.
  • Experience with simulation-based education and competency-based learning.
