Sr. Instructional Designer Full Description

Overview: 
The Senior Instructional Designer plays a critical role in designing, developing, managing, and coordinating e‑learning projects for Johns Hopkins Medicine (JHM), ensuring that all project goals are met on time using sound instructional design principles and methodologies. This role oversees the full course development lifecycle, including effective use of the Learning Management System (LMS) for publishing and maintaining online training. Acting as a key point of contact for team members, subject matter experts, vendors, and clients, the Senior Instructional Designer works independently with minimal supervision and must be able to manage multiple complex tasks in a fast‑paced environment, requiring strong organizational skills, time management, and broad experience in enterprise learning.
 
Shift: Monday–Friday, 9am–5pm

Pay Rate: $50/hr.

Responsibilities: 
  • Apply instructional design methods and adult learning principles to create effective training solutions that support organizational goals.
  • Partner with stakeholders, leadership, and subject matter experts to identify needs, gather requirements, and ensure content accuracy.
  • Lead instructional design projects by managing tasks, timelines, scope, and deliverables.
  • Design and develop instructor‑led and e‑learning materials, including job aids, guides, scripts, and other resources.
  • Build, update, and maintain e‑learning courses using Articulate 360 (Storyline and Rise).
  • Analyze learning needs to shape course content for both online and classroom delivery.
  • Upload and manage courses in the Learning Management System (LMS) and ensure accessibility and proper functionality.
  • Evaluate learning programs using feedback and performance data, recommending improvements as needed.
  • Mentor junior instructional design staff by providing guidance and technical support.
  • Present project updates and training solutions to leadership and stakeholders.
  • Work efficiently under tight deadlines while producing high‑quality, consistent, and creative learning materials.

Qualifications: 
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in instructional design, adult learning, or training.
  • Advanced proficiency in Articulate 360 (Rise & Storyline) — Articulate license will be provided.
  • Strong background in developing online/e‑learning content and managing instructional design projects.
  • Experience with Captivate, Camtasia, and Microsoft Office.
  • Deep understanding of adult learning theory, competency‑based training, and instructional design methodologies.
  • Experience analyzing workflows, policies, and procedures to create accurate and relevant training.
  • Proficiency with Learning Management Systems and general office/audiovisual technology.
  • Knowledge of competency models, assessments, and evaluation methods.
