Position Overview and Key Responsibilities
The University of Maryland's Office of Student Financial Services & Cashiering (SFSC) is seeking a Student Financial Specialist for the service center, and is an integral part of the Financial Services Center, responsible for responding to student account and financial inquiries; assessing the needs of students, parents, and external departments in determining the most appropriate customer service and account action needed. This position will resolve customer issues in a timely and professional manner, reducing the need for managerial escalations. Extensive interaction in person, via phone, and email including writing professional correspondence to customers and the student body is required.
The Student Financial Specialist must demonstrate strong organizational skills, and attention to detail. They must also exhibit excellent written and oral communication, as well as analytical skills with the ability to explain both simple and complex financial issues. This position requires the ability to work effectively and respectfully with students, staff and faculty from diverse cultures, backgrounds and identity groups. The Student Financial Specialist must also demonstrate the ability to work under pressure and sustain a high level of productivity and professionalism, and must be comfortable with periodic public speaking.

The Student Financial Services and Cashiering (SFSC) Department at the University of Maryland, College Park, is dedicated to delivering exceptional financial support and services to students, families, and the campus community. The primary objective of the Office of SFSC includes the billing, payments, collections, refunds, third party scholarships, tax information, and fielding general questions relating to the financial account of university students and its associates.

Preferences
Microsoft Excel basic formulaic and organizational tools proficiency is preferred.
Prior Higher Education experience is a plus.
Bachelors degree in a related field is preferred.
Physical Demands
Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards. Must have the ability to lift and carry small parcels, packages and other office items and boxed paperwork short distances within the department. Also the ability to either walk or coordinate with UMD public transportation to and from the specified parking garage should campus vehicle parking be needed.

Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED AND Four years related experience in customer service or financial operations preferably in a higher education environment.
