Job SummarySomerset Community College invites applications for a Student Support Specialist II-Coordinator Ready to Work Program. The KCTCS Ready to Work (RTW) program is a partnership between the Kentucky Community and Technical College System and the KY Cabinet for Health & Family Services, Department for Community Based Services. This position will identify, recruit, and support low-income/at-risk KTAP eligible students who are enrolled or interested in enrolling in postsecondary education and those who are enrolled in adult basic education working toward a GED or improving their basic skills with a goal of attending college, including work-study opportunities that do not reduce certain public benefits, advocacy and mentoring, access to daycare and transportation assistance and employment skills training. The KCTCS Ready to Work program is grant funded and funded through June 30, 2026. KCTCS will be requesting a continuation budget for the Ready to Work Contract. This position will serve students in Pulaski, McCreary, Lincoln, and Wayne Counties. Weekly travel to service areas will be required to meet with students and community partners. Travel to Laurel County and other counties will be required for job training, professional development, and meetings. Primary SCC campus/center office location will be determined once this position is filled to best meet the requirements of the SCC Ready to Work Program. SCC offers college vehicle reservations and travel reimbursement when applicable.
Job Duties:•Following and enforcing policies and procedures consistent with the KCTCS, and all other local, state, and federal rules and regulations in accordance with the grant regulations to identify and serve Ready to Work students.

•Assist with the determination of campus-based budget needs and collaborate with the college business office on the dispersal of grant funding.

•Develop work experience and work-study placements.

•Facilitate and maintain communication with case managers and community agencies.

•Supervise and mentor work-study students and act as liaison with employers.

•Provide advising for students regarding their academic and career goals.

•Provide assistance in securing academic classroom training for college entrance and employment.

•Provide assistance with filing college entrance applications, financial aid, and work-study forms.

•Recruit potential Ready to Work eligible students.

•Provide counseling for students regarding economic self-sufficiency.

•Accurately compile, review, maintain, and safeguard student records.

•Assist students with job placement opportunities.

•Provide pre and post assessment/career services when applicable.

•Provide/assist students with finding workplace essential skills training.

•Provide/assist students with ESL training.

•Provide tutorial assistance for difficult classes or referral to other Student Support Services.

•Maintain accurate and complete personnel records.

•Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree (Human Services, Psychology, Social Work, Counseling or related field), and three years related experience, or equivalent.

Additional Skills Requested:Competent working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and adequate computer skills; resourceful; strong interpersonal skills (including phone, email, face-to-face, text); efficient time management/organizational skills; and strong attention to detail.
