Job Summary  | The University of Kentucky Libraries is seeking a Head of Software Development and Integration to join the Digital Strategies and Technology unit. This leadership position is pivotal in supporting the development and enhancement of applications and services that facilitate the discovery and access to the University’s digital collections. The Head of Software Development and Integration will lead the transition to updated technical infrastructure and development practices, ensuring alignment with current best practices. This role involves supervising a team of three developers, collaborating on developing and supporting tools and applications, and working with Libraries and IT colleagues to streamline processes and enhance system capabilities. The position ensures the organization’s technical environment remains effective, scalable, and consistent with evolving industry standards.
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities  | Strong oral, written, and interpersonal skills to communicate with technical and non-technical audiences Leadership or supervisory experience Ability to work collaboratively and manage multiple and complex concurrent tasks and projects Knowledge of complex IT systems including understanding of full-stack environments, virtual networking, and storage. Experience with programming languages such as Python, PHP, or JavaScript. Versed in XML and JSON. Experience with Linux server administration Experience with APIs and API frameworks Experience with version control, preferably with Git Versed in containerization technologies (e.g. Kubernetes, Docker, etc.)

Preferred Education/Experience  | Bachelor’s degree in computer science or other relevant discipline or equivalent professional experience in an information technology environment.
