The University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) is seeking applications for a part-time temporary Program Support Specialist for our Military and Veteran Student Services Department. This position will primarily work on JBER. If you are interested we invite you to apply!
This Position will support UAAâs JBER Education Centers & MVSS by monitoring and assisting students, instructors, and tutors during scheduled class times. The Program Support Specialist will keep classrooms and whiteboards clean, reset classroom furniture between sessions, provide technical support with equipment, follow UAA policies and procedures, and basic security open/lock-up/shut down. Reporting of daily occurrences will be required. The Program Support Specialist will be expected to serve as the first point of contact by answering general class schedule and admissions questions, helping with UAOnline and Blackboard, and following paperwork-processing procedures. Furthermore, will explain VA education benefits and DoD tuition assistance to students, parents, staff, faculty, and community partners. Work with students, parents, and university staff to explain the student's rights and responsibilities required for participation in DoD and VA programs while attending UAA. The Program Support Specialist will exhibit exceptional written and oral communication and collaboration with students, staff and faculty. Reliability, trustworthiness and professionalism are expectations of this position.
Must have the ability to assist the JBER community, clean classrooms and whiteboards, physical ability to move classroom furniture, sufficient basic knowledge to provide technical assistance with equipment (i.e. computers, copiers, projectors, smart board) and troubleshooting, and is knowledgeable or have the ability to learn UAA policies and procedures. Excellent customer service and ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to problem solve, work comfortably with individuals who may be frustrated, and demonstrate success in working with diverse populations and with those persons with diverse points of view. Preference for applicants with knowledge of federal DoD and VA education benefit regulations, experience with Banner, ArmyIgnitED 2.0, VA-Enrollment Manager, AI Portal and Navy NCMIS software.
Minimum Qualifications:
Associate's degree or equivalent combination of training and experience working with military or Department of Education regulations preferred. Must be able to work a flexible schedule and day or night shift depending on the schedule of classes at the JBER office.
Must be able to clear any required check by Security Forces for base access onto JBER.
Previous University experience in a professional office setting is desirable.
Position Details:
This position is located on the JBER military base in Anchorage. This is a part-time, temporary, non-exempt staff position that starts at $20.47/hour.
