REPORTS TO: Assistant Director of First-Year and Transfer Admissions
SUPERVISES: N/A
SUMMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION: The Transfer Admissions Counselor promotes the University to prospective students, families, and counselors through targeted recruitment strategies for transfer students. This role is responsible for developing and executing a program to achieve enrollment goals, reviewing and evaluating undergraduate applications based on institutional policies and applicant potential, and serving as a liaison between transfer students, academic departments, and university offices. Key responsibilities include organizing campus visits, building relationships with community colleges, and assisting in the creation of promotional materials. The counselor collaborates with Academic Partnerships to facilitate articulation agreements. In addition, they follow best practices to support student success, retention, and timely graduation.
The Transfer Admissions Counselor follows the University’s best practices to build and/or support student academic success and retention, and assist in meeting strategic objectives for persistence and timely graduation of all the student population.
EXAMPLES OF PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 
  • Travel extensively as assigned in the effort to meet the institution’s recruitment goals. Plan and execute a recruitment program focused on enrolling qualified transfer students.
  • Represent the University at college fairs, college nights, open houses, and other recruiting programs.
  • Cultivate and develop working relationships with representatives of high schools, community colleges and other education institutions to facilitate enrollment at UMass Dartmouth.
  • Assist the Assistant Director with travel planning to ensure attendance of key travel areas to meet enrollment goals.
  • Counsel and correspond with individual prospective transfer students.
  • Maintain close working relationships with community college transfer personnel.
  • Assist in review of promotional materials, web-based presentations and other marketing strategies for transfer students.
  • Assist with the organization of on-campus visit programs for transfer students.
  • The counselor collaborates with Academic Partnerships to facilitate articulation agreements to simplify the transfer process, oversees initial credit evaluations, and collaborates with state and regional organizations to enhance the overall transfer experience.
  • Work with campus staff responsible for ensuring that transfer students make a smooth and successful transition to the University (Academic Advising, College Deans Offices, Student Affairs staff, Residence Life, etc.).
  • Evaluate transfer student credits.
  • Review applications for admission and make recommendations on student admissibility in accordance with University policy.
  • Participate in programs sponsored by Admissions and Enrollment Management.
  • Serve as liaison for transfer students from the Admissions Office to the undergraduate colleges and to other departments as assigned by the Assistant Director.
  • Other job-related duties and responsibilities may be assigned, and/or the job description changed periodically to reflect changing organizational needs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree.   
EXPERIENCE: Previous (over 1 years) experience working and communicating with prospective students in various guidance, admissions and/or recruitment aspects. Utilization of contemporary web-based marketing techniques.
OTHER: The position requires extensive travel throughout the assigned region. Evening and weekend hours are required to successfully perform the duties of the position.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Previous Transfer Admissions experience at a college or university.
  • Previous sales or marketing experience.
  • Previous experience in an institution of education.
  • Knowledge of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:  
  • Strong understanding of the undergraduate student academic and social cultures.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, writing, and public speaking skills.
  • Demonstrated record of proficiency in the use of contemporary technological marketing applications including social networking media.
  • Ability to understand and communicate university policies and procedures.
