JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

The Information Technology Services Office of the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State is seeking undergraduate students to work across a variety of information technology disciplines including, but not limited to, computing support, networking, systems administration, helpdesk support, and cybersecurity.

ARL is an authorized DoD SkillBridge partner and welcomes all transitioning military members to apply.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with installation, configuration, testing, maintenance, and support of computing and network hardware and software

  • End-user support

  • Assisting in the development of process and equipment documentation; assisting with equipment inventory and auditing

  • Answering phones and emails

  • Assisting with cybersecurity initiatives

  • Technical writing

  • Assisting with programming and software development tasks

  • Other duties as assigned

Students studying Information Science and Technology, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering are encouraged to apply.

Required skills and experience include:

  • Excellent communication, customer service, and organizational skills

  • Technical writing

Preferred skills and experience include:

  • Linux

  • Computing Help Desk

  • Configuration, installation, programming, and support of network equipment

The successful candidate will work up to 20 hours per week during the fall and spring semesters and 40 hours per week over the summer. Hours will vary.

This is a paid part-time position, located at ARL's Main Lab Building on the University Park Campus. Relocation and housing are not provided.
